I have check him all over with a light. No marks. Vent is not swollen. Have him in a box in the guest bedroom. My husband thinks I'm nuts. I've put him on a good towel. lol We are doing the penecillin right now. We put the vetrx under his wings and on the back of his head. Tommy put some down his throat as if it was a cold. None of the others are sick.

My heart hurts.

That is why I asked what line... some lines are bigger than others... heavy breeds suffer from heart failure more at times. But usually a heart attack would have him dead in the time we are discussing this.

Aspergilliosis causes these symptoms and I have had to deal with it a couple times. Never successfully, I might add. Basicly, they eat mold (their feed got wet or the always present hairy mold under the waterer or if you use straw as bedding... these are hot spots) and the mold grows inside them. Because the inside of a chickens is warm,dark and moist. He could have nipped the mould long ago and it be the problem now.

How's his crop? Full of food? Empty? Full of air?

Felt the crop. Nothing. How would I know if it was full of air?

For some reason, when a chick is weak like that and you dip it's beak in water to force a drop to drink... they die. Like within the hour. Something I noticed that never fails.

I will remember that when I receive my replacements in 2 weeks (although I really hope they are in better health when they arrive). Just had the last one die. Really do appreciate the advice just wish I had known it earlier.

The more I think about it... aspergilliosis sounds right... most everything else comes with swelling or gaping or something else he doesn't have.

On that second link, in the treatment, they touch on what I was saying... treatment is useless. I hate to bring that to you, but giving him antibiotics won't HURT but you also need to be prepared that they won't work.

I had a rooster I loved get it and die... same symptoms... at first he was weak and walked like he was drunk, then he didn't walk, then he died. It took about 32 hours for all that to transpire... he was a tiny bantam, so it might not happen as fast for your big boy.

No. Not at all.. it effects younger birds more than older and it can be as simple as what he ate or where he sleeps in relation to where the mold spores are (and they are in the air)

Well, the good news is that they might have died anyways and in a way you kept them from suffering longer. (silver lineing)
