So far I have 1 male and 1 female Cream Legbar! It is so cool knowing what they are as soon as they hatch. I sure would love to hatch out another female!

It's a mash which is why I stopped using it. My birds were wasting way too much. For a little more I buy Nature's Best from Agri-Feed in Knoxville. It's a little over $30 a bag but you can get pellets or crumble, which they will actually eat. Dave told me that he only puts out enough for them to eat in a day and that helps. Mine were a little better when I put a pan under the feeder to catch what they scratched out. They ate what they liked then went back and ate the rest. I still like the pellets better, though. It has soy, but it's non-GMO. I tell ya, someone willing to produce soy-free feed in pellet form could make a killing.
I know. It is nuts that one of the big feed companies does not monitor the "pulse" of the chicken community and figure something out. A soy free small pelleted feed at a decent price would corner the market. How hard could it be? If I hit the lottery I am building a heck of a mill

For anyone that might have been interested in the Brinsea brooder heaters...they are both on sale. The 20 chick version is $53.99 and the 50 chick version is $109.99
http://www.brinsea.com/prod-EcoGlow_50_Chick_Brooder-256.aspx I have the 20 in my brooder and it is a wonderful heater. They are adjustable for diff size chicks or as they grow. Easy to clean and no lights to blow or burn out. I love mine.

Just thought I would drop that info for everyone doing fall/winter chicks.

x2 I love mine! I almost burnt down my chicken coop with one of the lights.... so know this is the only think I will use. I have wondered if you could make something like it with a heating pad.....

I don't know...I was wondering about the lizard mats that go under an aquarium too. I used to have bearded dragons and have 2 that I was thinking of trying to make one for my 75 gallon tank brooder. If I could find something to mount it to and put that on legs, it would be the same type of thing.

I just ordered the 50 chick version for my coop outside. My Serama's can fit under it easily. So I thought others might be interested to know about the sale.

Or maybe a seedling heating mat? That are meant to be outside? The bad thing is that they only increase temps up to ten degrees.

Quote: I do not know this for a fact.

I was on another thread and they were talking about feeds also.
It was said that this company makes a pork based feed.

http://www.tuckermilling.com/index.html

When you check their where to buy, it shows Valley Farmers Coop in Harriman Tn carries it.

Would be worth checking into.

This was copied directly from thier web site

At Tucker Milling, we use only the finest ingredients to produce excellent quality nutrition for your birds.

Our Layer, Starter and Commercial Game Bird Feeds are formulated by the same nutritionists who formulate our feeds for large commercial producers.

We include non-ruminant meat and bone meal to fulfill the omnivorous needs of your poultry. Poultry naturally consume insects and worms when they are free range, but in captivity they need supplements of this in their diet. This gives them the proper protein sources they need and can help curb pecking eggs and each other

oh, 10 minutes up the road from me! Interesting!

OK Just made a couple of phone calls.

Valley Farmers COOP DOES NOT carry their feed. They only carry their bird seed.

I contacted Bob's Feed out of Crossville, (931) 484-2937
They carry
12 grain 12% for $13.00
13 grain 16% for $13.25
Both these they mix on site and put into Tucker Bags

They do carry the Tucker Super Lay 22 in mini pellet for $13.25 and 16% pellet for $11.25

They also told me they have two other stores.

Blaine Hardware (865) 933-7441 in Blaine TN
Porter Grocery Store (423) 234-4410 in Baileyton TN

The Lady I talked to said all 3 stores carry a variety of products and to call for prices.
