As someone who was the recipient of such a "kind" gesture before... please don't. We folks out in the stick have birds too

. Now I happen to know of a lake nearby...
Do you really think I would dump them out near a house, let alone one with birds? I think our definition of "sticks" is different.

With the last 2 photos you get the best idea as far as sexes go, the 4 to the right are cockerels, the 2 to the left are pullets. The other 2 are hiding so don't know if the last 2 are pullets or cockerels, and since you plan to keep 2 of the ones that will be pullets, I have no idea if the 2 I don't see are what I'm left with as far as cockerels go. If the other 2 are pulletish I wouldn't have a problem.... I can't tell if out of the 8 you have 2 pullets and 6 cockerels, or 3 pullets or 4...

ETA: In the second photo of them eating (the closer one) it looks* like there may be a 3rd pullet, but it's questionable with the one staring at the camera.
I see the same... two pullets and four cockerels... one cockerel could possibly be a pullet but I'm betting not.

Went and caught the bantam cochins, I'm happy to report they seem fat and happy.

If I don't forget, I'm going to try and find a box because I can't fill up the carriers, they are going to be used to transport rabbits back. GOSH, how do I always end up with more mouths to feed? ROFL! I'm thinking after a couple weeks of watching for sicknesses etc. I will combine the wyandottes with the australorps into a hoop coop! Until then, they'll be housed in the rabbit barn.

Just wanted to share what my coops/runs/pens look like. It looks like one very big long structure but is actually 4 seperate areas (ea. approx. 10x16 except #4(far right) which is @ 20x20) with coops in each. Got the garden area cleaned up (except pile of wood covered up, still working on modifying a couple coops. If my husband would have listened to me the first time he wouldn't have to be redoing them

Overall, being new to the chicken world and having just started this last June I am very pleased with what we have going. The larger coop building to the far right houses on one end a seperated room that has two brooding pens plus a grow out pen below them.

So, not only do they have nice size living quarters they get to free range some in the fenced off area. This area used to be our veggie garden, but we've scaled back and for the last couple of years only plant a few tomatoes, cucumbers etc. in another area closer down by the house.

matter fact it's warmed up now so off to paint coop in pen #3 -

@bairo --awesome link

TNBarnQueen-- I got 6 silkie eggs and a bonus egg....2 are detached as well, but I am gonna try it. I let them sit for 24 and set them this morning. These are the Columbian Silkies...so I am gonna cross my fingers and hope I can save them. My cochin eggs might not have a chance as they have been sitting in Baltimore for 48 hrs now. Don't know why. This was the lady you put me on. I sent her a message. She sent them out on Mon.....do they have a chance??

Throwing this out there for any close to me.
I have some black AUSTRALORPS for sale. They are eight weeks old. I bought eggs to hatch with the intention of just wanting a couple hens. I ended up with 8. To be honest I still can not really tell which are girls or boys but will take a guess at a couple to keep.
Asking $5.00 a piece or take six for $20.00
So, if interested holler back.

No pictures of them yet but can get some tomorrow.
thanks all

p.s. if interested, might decide to let a couple bantam cochins cockerals go too - don't really want to BUT the ratio is getting out of wack
I would take them if you were closer

I have been looking for some new blood to add to mine and no one close has any.

Cool & glad to hear, can't wait to get them & my bachelor boys will very be grateful to you

.

Haven't said anything to the hubbie, it will be a nice surprise when he gets home...."honey, guess what we need to gather up the australorps to trade for some cochins" - lol

Yes, and if you saw my post about my coops etc. exactly why the last one was nice and big with a seperate room for isolation etc...

Now, I just have to move the 3 month old speckled sussex (3 - still unsure of their sex) & welsumer (only one, 99% a roo, named him CornFlake) in with the misc. hens.
