Thanks Talbott Poultry

Can you post of pic of your
BLC (Blue Lace Red Wyndotte over Silver Cuckoo Marans)
These are right at 6 months old.

Yes it did produce some UGLY cockerels.
The extra cockerels are soon to be Christmas presents.
After all there are turkeys at the store not as big as these guys.

The hen at the back of the pic is the look we are hoping to maintain.

TNBarnQueen,

I was told Sizzle is a "Sizzle" = "Silkie x Frizzle" hybrid (hence the weird fur - like feathers)

But the real question I have (besides why make a furry chicken) is Girl-sizzle or Boy-sizzle??

B/C if it will lay an egg, or even be a decent broody hen, then I might keep it,
but otherwise since it has to stay penned 100%
(can't fly is small & my cats would just love to taste it b/c it looks like furry rodent! )
I'm gonna need to rehome (if a him).

I was told girl, but the gifter also told my DH the 3 baby ducks she handed him w/ sizzle were all girls & now grown at least 2 are clearly Drakes.
So it hit me this week that since she was wrong about the ducks, and no egg so far, maybe Sizzle is sadly Sizzle-boy :(

Raine...This was my partridge.sizzle roo that I had. Usually the feathering on the neck will curl up around their head. If your chicken is a hen you will have very little comb and they lay flat against their head. Silkies are wonderful brooders. I have 2 that have raised around 70 chicks this year and have set more eggs than that. It is an advantage for anyone to have one. Could you get a closer pic of its head looking straight on?

I am not looking to buy chicks or feed right now, I was just wondering in the spring if I would have to order online or if there was a place locally I could get some.
Apples...Are you pretty close to newport? I am getting ready to order now for a feb or march delivery. If you want to split an order (or if anyone else wants to) let me know.

Amy ,
I have to admit, that is really sweet. Most of my Roos so far could hardly care about the hens. So exactly what breed are these little love birds?
Raine
Terri said they were Belgium D'Uccles. They are tiny. I can hold her in one hand. They don't want to be caught. But once you have them, they are quite content. And they like to be spoiled. (I assume Terri use to spoil them because they seem quite familiar to it. lol)

Poor Stang, you have had problems from day 1. Waiting on the shipment, not getting hatches and now....bless your heart. I don't understand why you and Rodney and everyone else like hatching. It seems frustrating.

I have a question about your run. First, it looks like a playground. Very well kept too. What are those feeders? Did you make those? Second, what is the pipe running at the bottom across the run? What size are those runs? Did you make them yourself? We are going to have to invest in 10 kennels for our dogs this spring. We have two that are joining. I ask because they are so expensive. Next, do they have a roost? I know I'm asking too many questions, but this really caught my eye.

The first time you see a teeny tiny little crack in an egg after 21 days of watching..then lean down to hear a baby chirping inside the egg, sit there for hours just to watch the thing pop out; All of a sudden you forget about the frustration

There is something amazingly special about watching life emerge to take it's first look into your eyes :)

Alright, I am about to try hatching some more Serama babies. I have some more eggs coming. I just hope it's not too cold. They are coming from North Carolina so hopefully the trip will not be too hard. My last hatch didn't turn out as well as I hoped. Any ideas why I would have 11 make it to lock down and only 5 hatch? I ran the temp at 99.3-99.7 and the humidity was about 38-40% and then at day 17 I put them on lock down because Seramas hatch a day early most of the time. I increased humidity to 55-60%. I don't know why the other 6 made it to hatch and didn't come out. But, out of the hatch I have 4 pullets and a 1 roo. Any tips on this next incubation.
