I went out on the side porch barefooted this morning to hang out some sheets & stepped in a big wet poop pile!

I mean I know not to go shoeless in the yard but the porch used to be safe!

ETA- they are so freaking happy they come up on the side porch to look inside to see if I will bring them sunflower seeds, worms, bread or scratch. Rotten little brats!

Yeah in these pix Sizzle does look more like a male. Super pretty bird tho.

Mine was definately a roo...I just wanted you to see how the comb would look like and the males do not have a real large crest like hens do. A young boy bought him from me at the Newport show last year. If you want sizzles I can put you in touch with the lady I got mine from.

@itsthelaw...I think you where the one asking about runs....the hoop coop like Stang done is a very easy way and they are very versatile. You can build a hen house at the end. You can make them taller or wider...but they are a great choice. Also if you build smaller ones for smaller breeds it would not be hard to move them if needed. I am thinking about building one but putting the base on 3 foot poles to raise it and build an outer hen house to attach to it. There are many ways to do it!

Thanks very much! Actually I just put an order in for frizzle, sizzle, and smooth feathered seramas yesterday. A breeder has an assortment of the seramas a b size. Unfortunately I am only able to keep the tiny seramas in my small coop. Thnks tho!

Alright, I am about to try hatching some more Serama babies. I have some more eggs coming. I just hope it's not too cold. They are coming from North Carolina so hopefully the trip will not be too hard. My last hatch didn't turn out as well as I hoped. Any ideas why I would have 11 make it to lock down and only 5 hatch? I ran the temp at 99.3-99.7 and the humidity was about 38-40% and then at day 17 I put them on lock down because Seramas hatch a day early most of the time. I increased humidity to 55-60%. I don't know why the other 6 made it to hatch and didn't come out. But, out of the hatch I have 4 pullets and a 1 roo. Any tips on this next incubation.

Have you heard of the "lethal gene" that some seramas carry. It is what causes the chicks to die right before hatching. It is mainly carried by short legged seramas. The first seramas I bought have very short legs and while I like the way they look, it is bad for breeding or showing. For this reason I am not breeding them. I have bought better quality breeding stock. If you go to the website at www.malaysianseramabantams.com/lethalgenetics.htm it explains the situation in detail. You are lucky you got 4 pullets to 1 cockerel--out of my last 12, I got 3 pullets and 9 cockerels. Good luck with your next hatch!

When you order chics and they are old enough to get out of the brooder, do you build separate housing? You all told me not to put my 3 month olds in with my 10 month olds. So if I get chics, then I will have three sets of the same chicken. (housing for 10 month, 3 month and then there will be a baby run) Seems that is getting crazy. Should I wait until my 3 month olds are old enough to put in with the others before I start another group?

I only have one golden laced wyandotte rooster and hen in one coop built for 8. I have a baby that we got from Stang that is a hen. I would like to have at least five hens and one rooster for that flock.

My other flock has 4 silver laced wyandottes (3 are HUGE), one pullet from Stang and one cockrel. When they get old enough, that side should be complete.

We have the new small coop for the Brahmas - one pullet and one cockrel.

And I jumped up this morning to check on the cornish game hen that we put in with the bantams. We were afraid they were going to beat her up - last night they ran her out of the coop. When I checked on them this morning, daisy and fiesty were in the same nesting box. Too cute. That made me smile.

Thank you. AJ gave a site to where we could buy tarps and connections. I saved it. I love Stang's new coop. Pretty good idea.

yes, Seramas have that gene(like the Jap Bantams, I think)and they also usually have a 60-40 rating for roosters according to Jerry S. That sort of explains why not so many people will sell eggs/chicks until they know what they are getting in order to not get the ratio you got. A lot of people just sell juvies, that are sexed or adults that aren't needed.
