Eastern Washington

RustyHen, I like your coop setup! Does the color scheme of your house or other structures need to be considered? If it were me, I think I would want yellow trim on the upper one (the main color is good, I wouldn't bother changing it) & do a dark red on the lower one since it looks like a barn. But there are so many possibilities (which I'm sure is why you're asking!)

btw..if anyone is in the market, I was at Walmart (Wellesley st, Spokane) & they have wood stains (water, UV protection) in the clearance aisle, $6/gal marked down from $28! Maybe other locations do too? I've got a few projects in mind & grabbed a 5g bucket...I am way too excited about it haha.

score!

We were at the lake when it rolled in, had no idea it would get so crazy! We had a bit of a walk back to the car & the hail started as soon as we got there. And we poked a dead frog. It was quite an adventure!

When we got back the girls were hanging out in the lumber side of the shed & I was happy to see that the area around the new bunny hutches was completely hail-free. It was awesome!

Roy,

Google "washington feather fanciers". They have three or four shows a year, all on the West side. County and state fairs usually have small poultry shows.

The next Washington Feather Fanciers show is Saturday March 16th in Monroe, WA. I know of several BYCers who will be there. In fact, there will most likely be a pot-luck :)

See you there!

I posted this question in the "Big WA" thread but thought I would post it here as well. When would be a good time to start hatching babies out with their momma? I hatch "all-naturally" and would like everyones opinions on when would be a good time to start? I want to let Blondie hatch out a batch sometime this year and she is wantin some bad now.

Whiski,

What's wrong with now? If you give mama a well sheltered location that she can take her brood when it gets too chilly, she will be smart enough to know when that is.

:)

Thanks Dave :) Ive been seeing everyone else with chicks but most are hatching them indoors. I want to give Blondie some babies and have her hatch them herself to see how she does for being a young hen. I better get to stripping down my chicken coop and run and building her own special nest box :) Im thinking about putting a dozen eggs under her since she is still laying pullet sized eggs, I want to give her a few of her momma's eggs and maybe a few of her own to see how she does :)
