Eastern Washington

I got my greenhouse almost all put together today!! (...ok the SO did most of it lol) I meeded to save my veggies from a mouse, since they almost all died. And it got me thinking.

Greenhouses are warm, humid, and have a hard protective shell...maybe it can be used to help incubate?? I'm going to have to do more research :D

Dixies babies hatched! Coldest day in 2 weeks! She left 3 in the nest, one was still drying one just wandering trying to find mama, one too cold to move!.

In my lap now...with a heating pad on low... Emergency brooder warming up...she has 11 with her so I may keep these 3 inside...

Hello all! I'm a newbie in Spokane WA! I've had 12 chicks for 2 weeks now, and I just added 3 more! They're such fun, and they are all so cute! I wish I would've started raising chickens sooner!

Here are some of my babes.

Hope you have a coop already...I made the mistake of getting the chicks before the coop was finished and its taking a lot longer than expected. AND the cost is more than expected as well. My poor husband is so sick of working on the coop....I love my birds....But I hope they can hang on until we get this finished....Venting!!

My coop was built last fall and finished up this spring. Depending on the weather we may put our chicks out there with the heat lamp in a couple more weeks.

I hope her new hatchling are okay.

I just moved my Australorp into the brooder, will try to put eggs under her tomorrow if she takes well to the move. This is her first time going broody and she went feet first into it, she has only been broody about a week but by day 2 all her tummy feathers were gone! I did a hatch earlier this year but didn't get any EE eggs hatched, so this time I am going to put only EE eggs under her, since I have a Cuckoo Maran Rooster that should make some interesting olive egg laying babies right? I figure if she is serious enough to pluck her feathers, I should at least give her the chance to hatch out a couple chicks! Darn chicken math!

Also I have some roosters that are only about 3 months old, they are from my Cuckoo Maran rooster and mothered by either Buff Orpingtons, Delaware, Barred Rock, or Black Australorp. Plus I have the father, a Cuckoo Maran from McMurray hatchery that is 1 year old. I am looking to sell or trade these boys since they all have sisters or daughters in my flock now. If anyone is interested please let me know.
