Eating 8-12 week old WH?

I have 2 drakes and 1 duck.

I wonder if you can try to sell the female? WH are only about 4-5 pounds average tops alive, full feathered etc- so processed and dress way less than that. And yes they are pretty much done in size by 8-10 weeks. After that they just work on their new set of feathers. Females are excellent layers (WH are)- I wonder if they would consider keeping the female? She would pay her way in eggs. We're trying!

I was thinking about that, but then I would feel sad because the one that is the calmest and nicest to me is one of the males :/ maybe sell the extra male and give them the money to bribe them into letting the duck pay both their ways

Good News! or at least i think progress they were sitting on the deck last night and called me out and asked how many eggs a year my ducks would lay, how are they different from chicken eggs (for baking) would i let the hen sit on the eggs to hatch the babied or would i use my incubator, how much could i sell the chicks for, the eggs also. Is there a market for me to hatch them all year long, how long do the ducks lay for etc.!! Keeping my mouth shut for a while to see what happens!!

A Welsh Harlequin should be a very efficient layer. They are listed as producing 240-330 eggs per year.

I get twice the price of chicken eggs when I sell duck eggs. People with chicken egg allergies eat them, as do some ethnic groups and they are willing to pay. However, I can see a problem with only one duck. I sell duck eggs in 6 packs and that is a week's production for one duck.

I use my duck eggs for baking and like them for baking very much. I just made duck egg cakes last night to eat with fresh strawberries out of the garden.

Your friendly drake is a baby and he might not be quite so friendly as he gets older. So keep that in mind.
