I've long said two things:

1) There's a huge difference between killing an animal to eat, and killing a mammal to eat.

Processing birds and fish, I think a lot of people could handle. Killing snakes, bugs, that sort of thing...no problem for most folks. When it comes to something with hair, though....that's where a lot of people get a little weirded out. I dunno what it is, but I've got a sneaky suspicion that we -- as mammals -- simply identify with mammals more than we do with birds, fish, reptiles, etc.... We had a mouse get trapped down in a plastic tote the other night and I was kinda like....awww....but it's so cute.

There's something pyschologically different about killing a mammal than other animals....I'm convinced of it.

2) If humans had to have some sort of a license to eat meat, and if getting a license required raising, killing, gutting, skinning, processing, and packaging a fairly large mammal -- even just one time through -- there would be A LOT more vegetarians in the world.

FWIW...I can kill a deer and process it at home, but I could never kill one of our goats to eat. I doubt I could do a bunny, either...

I agree 100%.

I'm mean, what's up with these people who won't eat dog?? And cat is downright delicious!!! And cockroaches have just the nicest crunch if cooked right.

How about hamsters? Or RATS!!!! Yummy, roasted rat! Mouse kabob anyone????

I will not eat goose because I raised one imprinted to me. It would be too hard to choke down when I had one that thought it was human and I was it's mother.....

she died from lead poisoning too; a very slow, painful, starvation death with paralysis of the neck muscles.... terrible to wittness....

Unfortunately I have smelled "Mouse Fricasse" cooking under the broiler! Blech! I will never forget that smell, LOL!!!

heh, it's true though. money was tight and dad went rabbiting to feed us when I was a kid... I ate it if I had to but really didn't like the taste at all. I did play with the tails and helped train a dog to retrieve the rabbits.

I'd be a big mean rabbit too if someone was going to eat me.

I could never eat "anyone" I knew personally so I guess I too, am a big loser. Good thing our eggs will never be fertile or I doubt I could eat them either.

I have never felt closer to anyone on this board. LOL I totally agree with everything you said.

Try having them processed before you process them at home; then you know how good they taste, and it goes form cute and cuddly to meat shrink wrapped! Make it into stew; the fine meat makes it hearty, and barbeque rabbit is DEE-LIC-OUS
