EATING RAW EGGS

Is it safe to eat raw eggs from my little backyard flock? They are all very healthy and live in a clean environment. I would like to use the eggs in protein shakes.

Raw eggs you put in cakes, etc and it gets cooked. Eating raw eggs can make you sick, and even if you think your flock is healthy, they can have a disease that you could get. If you cook the protein shake, sure.. any experts in cooking please correct me.

The risk is up to you. Many BY chicken folks eat soft cooked or raw eggs. It's not like store eggs are pasteurized, but they are cleaned and candled for anomalies.

I don't eat them raw because I just think raw egg is disgusting, but I have fed liquid raw egg yolk from my own backyard hens to my youngest chicks as a pick-me-up when they are a day or so old with no issues, despite having been warned against doing so by several Pinterest pins.

My friend eats only raw eggs (I also eat them on occasion, lol). Nothing has ever happened to him. I believe you'd only have a problem if the flock is carrying a more serious disease.

But that also has lemon juice and vinegar in it which will kill bacteria. Not the same as say, sucking the egg out of the shell.
