Well, since I did in fact violate a rule, I will apologize to the BYC staff.
That said, I would still like an opportunity to post a reply. While it is obviously any person's right to decline to eat meat, I would also point out that is my right to eat meat. I maintain that right whether you are present, or not. The statement "just don't do it in front of me" seems to project an unwillingness to allow others the opportunity to exercise their right to do as they choose and implies some type of consequences for doing so. Perhaps a statement such as "I prefer to avoid having to witness people eating meat" would be a much more tolerant statement.
Now, this is a web site dedicated to raising poultry. It stands to reason that the vast majority of those who raise poultry do so primarily as a source of food and in some cases, other products that offer an opportunity for an income of some type (selling eggs, feathers, fertilizer etc...). Many of those products come as a result of the poultry being humanely killed and utilized. It seems to me that starting a thread with the title of this one is done for one reason only. That reason, in my opinion, is simply to berate or antagonize those who raise poultry for the aforementioned reasons. It is designed specifically to elicit a response from those who may believe differently than the person who started the thread. I have an extremely low tolerance for those who desire to push their beliefs onto others, particularly when that is done on a public forum that is strictly controlled (and rightly so).
If a person chooses to avoid eating meat, that is fine with me. If that same person chooses to post on a web site dedicated to raising poultry, an animal which is utilized primarily as a food source all across the world, then that person is obviously attempting to start a "heated" discussion. One has to ask oneself why someone would choose to do so.
