Can't agree with you more! I was telling my DH the other day that so many people are buying these just to make a buck and the BCM population will become SO saturated that their value will plummet!
This same thread comes up every time her eggs go for a high price. I wonder if it's envy or jealousy that the same topic keeps coming up? You don't get eggs that dark from "off the shelf" Marans. It takes years of breeding to get to that shell color. And just because there are alot of people now breeding them doesn't mean that they will get the same shell color, it takes a very carefull breeding program to get and keep them there. I have already been hearing complaints from people that bought Cuckoo Marans from a hatchery and saying the shell color was very poor at best. Would I pay that much for them, no but there seems to be a long line of people that will.
If the breeder has good birds and good eggs, then why should people not purchase those eggs? Especially if they've got some money to burn from the holidays!
I don't believe it has anything to do with jealousy or envy, it is just amazing that the 'possibility' of birds from these eggs makes it so remarkable that they go for that price! There would be no way I would pay that much for shipped eggs! I would much rather buy the live birds, as others have said. But if these people want to spend that much on eggs, then more power to them. It is just amazing how much one will spend on them.
This breeder does not sell chicks or started stock of her copper black marans. If you want her stuff, you buy the eggs. She only sells on ebay. THAT is why her eggs sell high, pretty much... the only way to get her stuff is to buy on ebay. Her wheatens and golden cuckoos you can buy, but copper blacks, this is the only way.
I just thought that it was amazing that someone could pay that amount for 6 eggs shipped (yes postal) this time of year even...
Shipped eggs. I'm sorry but it sounds like a road trip to me. If I'm paying mega bucks for 6 eggs..I'm picking them up. Or hiring someone to do it for me.
