Ebay eggs

LUCK LUCK LUCK!!!! Now if I just get mine tomorrow!!!
I'm hoping that they are a good batch. But I'm not too thrilled with this seller. I bought them on Saturday and didn't get a personal note from her letting me know when they would ship until I sent her an email... and still don't know for sure if she shipped them like she was supposed to!

email and ask-- and GOOD LUCK- I occasionally sell eggs on ebay- and I ship as soon as possible and try to email the buyer tell them when they shipped.I want them to be happy.

I 2 am expecting three different orders I got off ebay they should be here tomorrow or sat as well. I ordered enough that it would fill my bator and give me extras for those that are not the shape to go into the bator. Good luck to everyone and I hope I have a good hatch rate as well.

Good luck everyone!! I prefer to buy my eggs here, on this forum, as I kinda "know" these people. I bought eggs from bugladyleah, and out of 11 viable eggs, only 1 did not hatch. I have since reordered from her, and am thrilled!!! I'm scared of ebay now anyway. Don't like the "sound" of most of the sellers there, more out to rip you off than give you a good deal. (not all of them -there are still some good people, my bff and aunt still sell, but I see more and more awful things happening there) (I used to be a big seller on ebay, since 2002) Steph

Be careful with candling-- Every time you open the incubator to do it, the eggs' odds of hatching are decreased as cold air rushes in, moisture rushes out, and the eggs are likely to be jostled a fair amount or rotated past the 180 degree radius that is best.
Candling once at day 8 has worked well for me. By then, chicks are far enough developed that you can really tell. And few enough days are left after that I think if a chick dies after that, its egg won't have time to get so rotten that it will explode (which can be a gooey possible danger to good eggs if a dead egg is incubated too long).
For candling, I recommend a pen light or other small flashlight held right against the egg on the opposite side from you. Most of these flashlights don't get very hot so don't pose as much of a risk of overheating and killing chicks. A small flashlight has been the ONLY light that's enabled me to see well enough through blue and olive green eggshells.
Best!

I'm sorry, but this is not quite true. Based on this, every time a hen gets off the nest she is decreasing the odds of her hatch being successful. And so are people who hand-turn their eggs. That simply is not so. Nature dictates that the eggs can withstand such changes very well up to the last few days. But hens do not get off the nest the last three days, usually, and that's when you may decrease the rate of hatch by opening the bator.

That said, it is best to be careful with candling. But the folks here who candle several times during the incubation period are well within the norm.

I was just wondering about that post myself - all the books I've read about duck egg hatching suggest you cool the eggs daily for more successful hatches.

That is true with duck and goose eggs. it greatly increase the hatch rate. Cool them for 15 min a day from day 4 up until the egg pips, and mist them with warm water sometime during the cooling period.
