Ebay Purchased Hatching Eggs Experiences Ups & Downs!!!

Katy, how dark are your Marans eggs? I wonder if it's maybe just the extremely dark eggs that need extra care while incubating (the eggs I hatched were TRUE 7-8 on the Marans egg color scale, so they were very, very dark).

Here are some that I incubated late last winter...

Well, those are certainly some of the darker Marans eggs I've seen! They're very pretty! What color are your birds?

Maybe the dark-coating-on-the-shell theory isn't correct. It sure is frustrating, though! I've chatted with several folks who have trouble hatching dark Marans eggs. Perhaps they just simply do not ship well?

They are beautiful eggs
Check out Black Copper kings eggs and he seems to get good hatches. Look at his eggs & My birds from those eggs.
Maybe we should ask him how he does it.

These are French Black Copper Marans

Yep, those are quite dark!! The more input, I think, the better! Then, rather than one of us experimenting, it's actually more like SEVERAL of us experimenting together!

They're mostly just plain old cuckoos...I've got a couple of blue pullets that are laying now, but none of those eggs are theirs. I've got some young wheatens that I'm looking forward to when they start. Most of my hens would rather set in the summer than lay which I've found to be an issue with my Marans. Those eggs are from when they first started back in laying for the season and they do lighten up some as they lay. Even at their lightest they're still dark eggs.

The eggs shown below are not newly laid eggs. This is the way he is selling this set on eggbid. He has been selling chicks from these eggs. I received his second shipping from eggs he hatch himself in his own incubator.
he did a perfect job with shipping. He must know how to hatch them eggs.

Oh, I was going to add that I have a Wheaten Penedesenca that lays dark eggs and her eggs get lighter each time she lays; she'll lay for a few weeks, and when the eggs are light brown, she'll stop laying for several days. When she starts again, they are very dark again. Interesting.
