Another 2 of my 5 babies.. (my Dh and 11 yr olds) others seem to be pullets as of right now. They will be 4 weeks on the 4th. I do have 1 week and 3 week pics if those help.. just let me know. Do they look like Ameraucana? I keep looking for pictures of what they 'may' look like at adults but no idea! Anyone know? They seem to have greenish feet? I am guessing by their differences one a male and one a female? I am thinking "Dixie" is male and "Amber" is female.. but I am new to this so maybe I have it backwards or completely wrong? Amber was lighter colored at 6 days and Dixie was darker.. they both have been getting their feathers in at the same pace, only thing that has been different is their heads? if that matters? Whatcha think?

One on right is Amber, Left is Dixie

lighter/fluffy head is Amber, the wide striped one is Dixie

Hello! I'm new to this aswell, so I'm not claiming to be an expert in anyway! :) Your chicks look just like my Easter Egger roo (their feathering not sex). I think it's still to young to tell gender. My mother in law has one yellow Ameraucana hen who has the tufts/muffs, and 3 adult EE hens. The EE hens lay blue - green eggs, and they look just like the Ameraucana but have more browns and blacks in their feathering.

humm.. so what is the difference between EE and Ameraucana? Is EE an actual 'breed' or the color of an egg?

ok.. so I decided to post their 1 week pic just to show how much they changed.. followed by their 3 week pic. When I look up Ameraucana chicks, they seem to look similar so this shall be a fun 'as they develop' game.. lol

You've got very neat-looking birds! As they're some sort of cross, I'm not an expert on gender ID. However, I can now spot Black Copper Marans within about two weeks of hatching, which is an amazing feat, as they're notoriously difficult. I would say that I suspect you are right with Dixie and Amber. I know demeanor can't be shared over the internet, but I also find, at a young age, my male birds are far more amenable to being handled and the females freak-out and want to be released immediately. Last, pau close attention to the cobs. A comb that takes forever to grow and turn red is a great signal that the bird is likely a pullet. Roos are a bit like people... we men seem to need to strut our stuff earlier and in a more flashy manner. Girls in the chicken world are more likely to develop those traits more slowly and my guess is that they will get their groove on no matter what.
