EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Benny,
Will you do me a favor & re-post the link to the thermometer/hygrometer you posted yesterday or the day before, so I don't have to try finding it in a readback?
$30 US (I understand they're available here) isn't bad for a unit guaranteed accurate from the factory; I'd like to get one. What is the tolerance of accuracy? Will it display in Fahrenheit as well as Celsius?

Thanks

I use these verses from Isaiah to comfort myself with the loss of my beloved pets, do you think it is reasonable to assume that our pets will be in heaven because of these verses?

Isaiah 11:6-9

And the wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little boy will lead them.
7 Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8 The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.
9 They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
"Peace In The Valley"
Elvis' rendition was my Grandmother's favorite.

Morning all.

We lost our sweet dog, Bunny last night just a little after 11PM. Towards the end she was unconscious. I don't think she suffered too much. I'm convinced that she had a massive heart attack. She was a good, smart girl who loved her dog cookies and would bark at you until she got what she wanted. When she was just a year old I taught her how to ask for treats by sitting in front of the container and giving a little bark. That was all it took. Soon we were holding
'conversations' with one another. My dad was living with me at the time and his dementia made him sleep a lot so she was my company. It didn't take her long to learn that the louder she asked the faster she got what she wanted.

So many memories are flooding me right now. I just told my husband that it just didn't seem right that God gave us such a wonderful companion animal and then gave them such a brief walk upon this earth.

I am one eight Cherokee Indian, the last generation that can claim legal tribal status, although my Great Grand Mother Alice never enrolled. The Native Americans have a legend about the dog. When the Great Spirit made the heavens and earth and all things that lived upon it, he made man last and told him from that day forward man would forever be separated from the animals. To prove that, a deep chasm opened in the ground between man and all the creatures of the earth. At the last moment before the chasm grew to deep and wide, dog jumped over it and set down beside man.

Rest in peace, Bunny.
I am so sorry. I've lost a few dogs before the age of 2, and it really sucks. (cancer, cancer, stroke/heartattack?) It's made me leery of getting big breed, purebred dogs after that. :( Not that it will stop me, but it definitely makes me leery!

I love our great pyr, and losing her would break my heart. She has a special place in my heart. So, I know what you're going through right now and how much it sucks.

I can only imagine the pain of losing a beloved dog and I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Two of my 3 are getting close to that time. One is 13 the other will be 14 in February. They're still healthy but their age is starting to show. Rocky will randomly stumble and Dreamy sleeps most of the time (though when she wants fed or has to pee, she'll still run and slam against the door to be let out or dance in circles for food. She's a husky.) I'm truely dreading the day that they pass.

awwwww taking a bath lol
lol, a nice cold snowy one

Good info thanks Kathy!

No problem, Banti, thanks for telling me that. Yep, I'm looking for OEGB hatching eggs for next spring and would love to find in state eggs. As far as I know though, my flock is MG free so I appreciate you telling me that.

Right now I'm sitting here watching our oldest dog slowly die. She was fine this morning and this afternoon. Suddenly around supper time one of our youngest dogs started whining. Our 13 year old Schnauzer mix was laying in her favorite spot in front of the back door. Her bowels had let go, her hind legs are stiff, she can't stand, her pulse is 180. She is alert but obviously not her usual happy self. I don't know what has happened to her. Thank God she doesn't seem to be suffering. If she is still with us in the morning she will be taking her to the vet for the last time.

So hard to say good bye to a loyal and dear canine friend.

Kristin.... How cold hardy are NN?

I was wondering if mebbe I could get some someday, but then thought they'd probably freeze their necks off in winter....
i was looking into them as well, i hear they do well in the cold
Can anyone help me all three of my thermometers are showing different temps including the incubator that I need to calibrate what should I do?
Calibration is a MUST: HOW TO CALIBRATE post #9068

Well, my new guard llama for the Boer goats came up this morning for the first time. He was hauled here and gelded Tuesday and has been standing far away till this morning.

Chad (a name meaning protector)

He is very handsome

Good Morning Kathy!!

Our last one, a 12-13 year old JRT, was partially deaf, eyes clouded over, and had fallen down the stairs numerous times; we knew it was time. We laid him in the mulch of the flower garden in front of the house; the only place I could dig a hole on this rock pile. He loved riding in a car; I carried him along on the paper route 'til I started carrying so many papers there wasn't room for him. Even had a little coat for him to wear in cold weather with the window open.
