EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I wanted marans before I even had chickens. I wanted them for dark eggs, and read a lot about how you needed to get them from someone who had been breeding and selecting for the dark eggs, so I waited and held out for ones from a breeder with dark eggs. I really like mine. The two eggs I pulled from the fridge are, I believe, from my black copper marans girl, Raven, aka Alice (she's growing into a new name), who is super friendly and sweet, and was an early layer of the darkest and largest of the eggs. I thought it's was worth the try. Still bringing them up to temp - shirt pocket method. Should get some nice green/olive eggers from these eggs...
Ah. Nice! Those are pretty eggs! I've been wanting them for about 3 years, (so has my mom :p) My mom knows some people who breed them (or did last I heard) maybe if I have a fair amount of success with my new bator I'll buy some eggs from them next year.

Cool - what's nice about hatching yourself is that you get to lay eyes on the eggs yourself (and see how dark they are).

Zip tie a bunch of them together?

Um, aren't we going for predator proof here?

Maybe Bubbles needs something like my shed, only not as high   10x16

Was thinking about converting my shed into a coop, 'cept then my lawnmower would get left in the rain, along with other stuff. It'd need significant remodeling anyway.
Box it up and ship it to her.

Good grief, the shipping costs would kill me...
Be a lot cheaper to re-post all the progression pics & let her build her own, if she's got $2-3k laying around

Nope... Going to have to save that much by spring though, at the very least. If I'm gonna build a coop, I'm going to do it RIGHT, not by skimping and having to replace it yet again.

Edited coz autocorrect thinks it's the smart one here.
