EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Yes. When neighbors were roofing their home. Rooster completely disappeared he was a very large Orpington. Too friendly followed me like a dog. Had him out for the day while I was there. When I came back around the barn after about an hour he was completely gone. Few feathers were left. So either a human took it or a very large animal took it with out a fight. I looked for days. Nothing. Usually I'll find parts laying around.
makes me appreciate my great pyr. She won't let strange humans on our property either unless I let them in the gate.

We have a fence but it's only on one side. So it doesn't do any good. Coyotes have areas where they come and go under the fence. Normally when they take a chicken they drag it under the fence and eat it on the other side. Smaller animals just drag them 20-30 feet and eat them there. That's why this was so unusual maybe 20 feathers and gone.

My current view from my deck...the girls are now searching for clues as to what got the rooster.

(The old privacy fence you see just past my daughter's clubhouse is just a divider I have between yards, it is not meant to be predator proof lol).

It bothered me for a very long time. So now I keep them in their pen bringing weed clippings to them. Roofers are long gone but I still have too many other critters here.

I have a large fenced in area that I used to let them run in but a large hawk/eagle got three of the Orpington hens. It left them in the run as they were too large for them to fly off with. I need to come up with a way to cover the top as I've done on the smaller coops run. Just cost too much to completely cover that size of run. I might do smaller fenced areas inside the large run.
