EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

[@=/u/220854/DwayneNLiz]@DwayneNLiz[/@] taking hydrocodone. Went in same day as sally for a procedure. They neglected to do a tubal on the wife when the twins were born so we decided since she had already had 3 c-sections i would go under the knife for once. I dont recall ever taking any meds stronger than tylenol. Yeah its got me a bit loopy.

Yikes. :( I wonder why they didn't do the tubal when they were in there??? :/ would have made it easier on everyone.

They were supposed to but it apparently didnt make it onto the chart. End of the day we were ok with that being the only thing that didnt go as planned.

Quote: The TRULY naked ones are a different gene (the scaleless gene) - for those you actually have to have them indoors or (gulp) sew clothes for them in the winter. @Kassaundra has them in Oklahoma - it's quite a bit of work. The ones with the naked neck gene, no problem. When it's cold, they draw their neck into their body just like when a regular chicken huddles up.

If I had gotten Toad eggs from you (and if I ever do in the future), that's the very first thing I'd do - slap a naked neck on them. In addition to potentially improving meat development and making processing easier, those big birds have a hard time in the heat - having a naked neck is probably the only way they'd make it around here without a lot of help (I'd have to help the first generation limp along, I think).
They have also a Pigeon NN variety!!
That is so cool - thanks for sharing! And those are some VERY nice NN chickens in there as well!!!!

Kristin, spiders are NOT good luck in any way, shape, or form.... And I can kill bugs with my electric zapper.

I'm glad everything else went well!

I guess 4 is your limit huh?

Appears as though. Mainly due to health concerns for her. Supposedly theres on so many C-sections a body can handle. Apparently we are pushing that limit especially with the last being twins.

:( That happens. Sometimes the uterus can't hold up well.

I've had one c-section, with twins also, in an emergency situation, but I refused to be a repeat c-section. So i've had 1 vbac, and 2 prior vaginal births to my c-section birth. (I've had 5 total children, 4 living.)

We got lucky and got the go ahead to have a couple more, but this last baby was rough on me. Everything about it hurt more. LOL

Hello I have an old GQF incubator and I usually have one problem with hatching. The eggs often dry out very fast and the chick gets stuck in the shell. Is it the fan affecting it or is it the humidity (60%) with both wick pads in it,

I should send you toad eggs in August, they would hatch in September and you would have your crosses by February or March so the toads would never have to survive a summer there.

And who knows maybe they will do better in the heat than I think.

I'm back from going to my seed company (King's Seeds) to get seed for the "pasture" in the paddocks (going with a mix of short native grasses, millet and clover this time around). They've been around a long time. Alas, they are only open M-F, 8-5, so I can only go when I have taken off work. (Glad I went, but it ate up some sunshine-time.) More to do tomorrow now...

I'm going to "rest my eyes" for just a little bit - traffic takes it out of me (I'm not usually in it). Then back to work...

What a nice, solid looking building!

All of the old buildings around here are built from limestone blocks like this - makes sense, it's found about 6" from the surface in many places... My house has stone around the inner framing. When I remodel, I'm going to refresh it, and thicken it. Keeps the house cooler in summer, warmer in winter. So, my house is sorta like the Alamo.

(Yes, there is a putting green on my porch. I bought it like that.

That's awesome..... I am at day 21 and 5 hours and have nothing from 30 eggs. Still got my fingers crossed!

Keep us updated, please.

Remember Maple's toe, the one I was supposed to amputate and didn't?

It fell off today. Nice healthy stump. Just a bit more skin and toenail to come off and she'll be healthy again....
Good.
