EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Appears as though. Mainly due to health concerns for her. Supposedly theres on so many C-sections a body can handle. Apparently we are pushing that limit especially with the last being twins.

:( That happens. Sometimes the uterus can't hold up well.

I've had one c-section, with twins also, in an emergency situation, but I refused to be a repeat c-section. So i've had 1 vbac, and 2 prior vaginal births to my c-section birth. (I've had 5 total children, 4 living.)

We got lucky and got the go ahead to have a couple more, but this last baby was rough on me. Everything about it hurt more. LOL

We had to have our first C-section because of a dangling leg, (way back in the stone ages) They told us we could only have one more kid because it would have to be C section.

After he was born they said we could have another but it would be a high risk pregnancy. My wife wanted to try, I did not. I wanted more kids, but I wanted the Kids I had to grow up with a Mother more.

You guys are lucky today with all the advances in the last 35-40 years.

Let me think about it... By next Saturday, I'll have 80 chicks in brooders - which is WAY too many for me. So I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I'll feel better about it all once I get a handle on their growout housing (which is currently still residing as lumber in Home Depot).

Speaking of which - I'm done with breakfast and coffee - gotta get to work for the day. See you folks later!

I wouldn't have consented to the c-section, but the doctor told me he wouldn't call the nicu to save my babies if I didn't sign the paperwork. baby A was head down and coming out - there was no medical reason to DO a c-section other than he wouldn't "let twins be born naturally." as a rule.

Had I been at any other hospital, I could have refused the c-section and they'd have saved my babies. But I was in a border hospital and the nicu team had to be flown in, and at 24 weeks, he could justify it by saying he thought they were younger and not viable.

Hello I have an old GQF incubator and I usually have one problem with hatching. The eggs often dry out very fast and the chick gets stuck in the shell. Is it the fan affecting it or is it the humidity (60%) with both wick pads in it,
i am unsure, you may need to up the humidity more with a humidity pump
i am unsure who on this thread uses a gqf cabinet sorry!

I should send you toad eggs in August, they would hatch in September and you would have your crosses by February or March so the toads would never have to survive a summer there.

And who knows maybe they will do better in the heat than I think.
you should!! lol share the wealth!

Our oldest 2 are 18 months apart and they wouldnt even entertain discussion of a vbac. Its was on the table for #3 and then we found out it was 3 and 4 so it was highly advised not to attempt vbac.

Similar scenario with us. They didnt say it was impossible but said it was high risk. Decided it wasnt worth the risk.

Hi Mel!

Quote: Thanks, nice link.

@Article Editor is that link in the notes?
Quote: Remember to make large enough for the goats!

I have 2 chicks that hatched in January and I'm pretty sure they're both boys.
10 chicks that hatched ranging from 1 to 2 weeks ago.
The 2 older ones are going into the coop today. I may even move the littles out today or tomorrow if I get it set up right.
I have 45 eggs due to hatch on the 28th. I need more space but I hope to sell a bunch of those.
I decommissioned a building that proved vulnerable to mink and then raccoons chewed their way into one of the pop doors. I'm trying to redesign it because I really need it as a grow out coop.
Good luck with the hatch and sales. Sounds like you really need to get that coop redesigned.

Quote: They were supposed to but it apparently didnt make it onto the chart. End of the day we were ok with that being the only thing that didnt go as planned.
Yes glad thinks went well.

Quote: Hi Pensmaster! Your wife is interested in the chickens now?

Is there a way to turn the fan off during the hatch, I know some cabinets you can. Or can the eggs be moved further from the fan? Higher humidity could also help.

Good afternoon Benny!

IF, big if, Sally can swallow a chopped sandwich for lunch, she should get to go home. Other than that, she is doing about as well as can be expected after having pretty significant neck surgery.
