Well I can happily tell you the results of my first hatch. I set 16 eggs. 14 were fertile. 13 made it to lockdown. 13 hatched. Not sure what percentage that is since i do not want to do the math since i am busy but that seems pretty good to me! (And i have 25 eggs in storage for incubation)![]()
Awwwwww, cute little ducklings.
Quote: OMG and the hamster is ok? Not sorry I asked no, congrats on the turk eggs! and whatever spr is too lol

I say AMOK guys I need help choosing who to sell. I have a pen that holds 18-20 hens and two cocks. I need to sell one of the cocks. I am going to keep the Penadasenca cock so I have to sell either the Ameraucana or EE cock. They are the same age. My goal with this group is just a mix of egg colors. They are the same age.
Here they are:
Blue Ameraucana
EE
He looks a little rough because of the recent fighting.

funny that EE except for the beard my ice roo looks like his coloring as well!

Saving all of a hatch is not very realistic. Use the event to explain life and death in nature and whatever your religious beliefs are.
I seriously believe that the less you mess with eggs the better they do. The temptation to help is HUGE but I am pretty sure helping kills more chicks than it saves. I have learnt the hard way too.
Set 49 eggs 3 weeks ago. Added water to the Bator 4 times only. Pulled 7 blanks a week ago and this morning have 35+ chicks and the rest look pipped.
Pure neglect seems to work perfectly.
It seems this is VERY true, I think every icelandic chick has a pip right now, and almost all the serama are out here, the oe are just starting lol. half the time I forget to turn them, bad me!
awwww CONGRATS!!!![]()

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/707110/the-truth-behind-crested-ducksHi all!
Just curious - why is crested a bad thing? Is it just ducks? I have never seen it referred to a negative in chickens....
I know vaulted skulls are really cute, but it makes them more vulnerable - their skull is less protected.
Thanks!
10 quail babies hatched a few more nearly fully zipped!! One came straight up to the window and is wondering why it can't get to its human mummy![]()
