I am. I'm not posting much since I don't have a ton going on right now. Aside from being in lockdown on a test hatch.
Raz! whats hatching? silkies
I gave up on and sold them last year. Actually, I sold a lot last year and in January. I now have the fewest chickens I think I've ever had. I'm down to 5 and 3 of those are roos. The eggs are a mystery cross. I know the hens are Black Australorp (Jazzy the 6-year-old) and BA/ Production Red (Henrietta the 4-year-old). The daddy could be White Chantecler, EE, or WC/BO. Turns out that not only can the girls keep up with a younger hen, they have 100% fertility. We'll see if they hatch with any problems due to the hens being a little older.

Oh, and this week I have a bunch of mystery eggs coming in from Meyer and in April I'll have Isabel Orp eggs coming in from MPC.

Next up, Brahmas....

Hi all!

Just curious - why is crested a bad thing?  Is it just ducks?  I have never seen it referred to a negative in chickens....

I know vaulted skulls are really cute, but it makes them more vulnerable - their skull is less protected.

Thanks!

Breeding two crested ducks causes most embryos to die in the first couple weeks, if the crest is too big something can grab it and cause it neurological damage or kill it.
