The only requirement in MO is a P/T blood test. That is free and all others are optional and at a cost.We also test for MG,AI and certain salmonella strains here. While there are other diseases, knowing there is some testing and biosecurity does comfort me.
I was cautioned not to test for AI even though some states require it for importation. The reason being, if my birds showed antibodies, they would do a more thorough test. If that came back positive, they would destroy all the birds on the property.
If I had something like leghorns or orpingtons that could be easily replaced, it wouldn't be the end of the world. But since I'm the primary breeder of an extremely rare breed in the country and couldn't be replaced, it would be a disaster to destroy a unique breed that is resistant/immune to AI.
I'll look into it. Do you know the approximate age of the incubator? That would tell me the types of controls in it.When you get a chance, could you please get hold of Granny Hatchet? She has a 220v cabinet incubator that seems to have a 110v plug, and isn't heating properly. Nobody's been able to come up with a manual. It didn't take long to exceed my very limited knowledge. @granny hatchet
Strange it would have a 110 plug.
That's cheap. The reason I rarely give eggs away is that once you do, you can't sell them to the same person again. Our entire fridge is full of eggs, so my husband took some into work and just gave them away. I think he's planning on selling them for 1-2 dollars a dozen but he took my containers... I have none left.
Free things aren't appreciated and become expected in the future.
I've given eggs to a couple friends and they never offered to pay nor have they offered to buy any since.
Screw that! They are the result of much expense and work on my part so giving them away discounts my sacrifice.
Most of the eating eggs I sell are those my wife takes to work. I had been selling for $3 but raised my price to $4 this year.We sell them for $3 per dozen. And people are ALWAYS asking for more. I bring in 2 dozen every couple of days for my boss. He hands me $6 without any complaint. They charge 6 - 8 per dozen for the cage free eggs at Trader Joes. And those only come in White or Brown. I have pink, green, blue, salmon, tan, brown, white, olive green and even one that looks purple. We have someone that likes the bantam eggs, and we sell a dozen of all bantam for $2. It's does not pay for the feed that we feed the chickens, but it helps.
We also buy the egg cartons 300 at a time.
If I really get loaded up, I take them to the Sushi/Asian smorgasbord up the street. The Chinese waitresses and cooks will buy all I have. I sell to them for $3 because they buy so many. What they love are the dark yolks. Winter is a problem for that when they aren't eating anything with carotenes.
I have the occasional olive egg in a carton and the sale cartons get all the brown eggs that are too light to set in the hatcher or sell for hatching eggs.
When I have lots to sell, it does cover the feed for all the animals.
I was selling hatching eggs for $2 each but went up to $3 this year.
I get that. I would probably sell that cheap if people brought their own cartons but I don't approve of visitors any more.We live in a rural area, where people sell eggs for 1.50 a dozen ^.^ soooo 2 dollars is pushing it. LOL
I am guessing in this case it is probably just junk I will come down pick it up and haul it to the dump for her, if she wants, She only needs to give me 20-30 bucks for gas,,,, It will save her the hassle and work,

So nice of you. If it still doesn't work when you get it home, I'll come get it.
People are strange. I have a couple neighbors like that. One guy with a few RIRs asked me (a guy with100 chickens) if I wanted some eggs cause he doesn't eat them. He just likes sitting at his desk in the morning and looking out the window to see them foraging.Bummers, I"m right in the middle of a somewhat populated area. But I work with at least 4 others that have chickens, they don't bring in eggs. One that has chickens - she and her husband don't like the taste of the fresh eggs, so they give them all away, and buy bland eggs. They just like the chickens.
...
The taste of fresh free range eggs is SOOO good.
I don't get it.
Right. Chicks are too small to notice. Thanks, MC!!!!
The Chicken Math is STRONG with this one...
I have almost 30 now, counting chicks. Freaks me out. (But chicks don't count, right?!)

I have a permit for 85 chickens and 5 roosters. I wish I had made that 10 roosters (which I often have) but I have too many chicks to count. I don't really count them till they're about 3 months old.
The only Flat Rock I know of is in Michigan.I have way too many egg containers at the moment.
I'm glad they found them and are in pretty good shape!
Yes, there is a lot of people that just use FB now for their sales. Flat Rock is another nice place in Texas, not certain of the city though.
Every once in a while, a big bag of cartons will show up on my porch. At one point, I had three stacks of egg cartons easily half my height. I am finally down to one, after a few years of telling egg customers not to bother bringing them back.
I have bought a few hundred at a time. They are way too expensive to buy individually. I think they're about $1 at TSC.
If one would sell their eggs for $1.50 and buy cartons individually, they are giving away money.
After a lackluster season, the Blues are on a roll. They've killed off about the last 25 opponents' power plays.Habs-Hurricanes game is tied 1-1 at the end of 1st period![]()
They are tied with Nashville for the last playoff spot and the Blues own the tie breaker. Trouble is, every time the Blues win, Nashville does too.
Nice dark legs.
What breed?
Splendid idea.I need 14 a week to keep up. Have to threaten raising egg prices before I get any back. Just ordered those 200 and a guy gives me a bag full. Good thing as I had zero left today. I should put a sign at my desk, save your egg cartons.
It seems like I'm either flush with cartons or have none.
Wife brings the 30 egg flats home and that helps.
Buckeyes?...
I sold them. I had way too many problems with them. I lost both roos to the heat, which I thought was completely weird since the hens were totally fine with it.
...
I saw that they were feeding expired gummy bears to dairy cattle.FWI to any next time they pick up that steak at the grocery store. I condense whey from 4% solids to 15% through a RO (reverse osmosis) system then to 40% solids through a ginormous evaporation system (high speed still lol) and load IDK, half million lbs+ - a week on trailers. Easiest job ever actually.
It used to go to a pharmaceutical plant that condensed it further to powder and I heard took something out of it for coatings on pills and the milk sugar IDK for sure. Driver that hauled it there once told me a load from someone else showed up and stank..what's that, spleens blood etc anything not saleable from a meat packing plant..what do you do with it..dehydrate it into powder, it's the meat protein in the soups you buy...
They closed a couple yrs ago.
Now it goes out to a place for 'animal' feed. After awhile I happened to ask the driver animal feed? What kind of animals, figuring dog or cat food maybe, guess whey is high in protein.
Imagine anything and everything in a grocery store, out of date, expired, tractor trailers of bread donuts pasta Mac and cheese with cheese packets dry soup mix Twinkies he's seen all the cardboard and plastic buckets even swirling around in their mixer supposedly they filter the junk out, candy even, saw seven tractor trailer loads of Skittles delivered recently. Said they chop and mix it up and add your whey and spread it out on a huge floor that dries it out then they bust it up and load it on trailers and send it out to the feed lots.
What feed lots?
Beef feed lots out west.
Hmm, mmm..yummy..
Dark terra cotta?Me? illegal?Naaa. I am in full obidyanc to the laws that have been legislated by a bunch of corrupted and stupid people.
Terra cota +
The Spanish standard calls for 'intense reddish maroon'. At least half of mine are. Some terra cotta.
Very happy news. Congrats!Hey guys! I've been around but never able to talk! I'm coming up on the last three days of classes now so I'll be more active!
Also EXCITING NEWS! As of this Saturday I will be seven weeks pregnant! We have our first doctor's visit for my blood test and to schedule an ultrasound next Friday. I've admittedly not been resting easy, I probably won't be able to until I hear the baby's heartbeat on the ultrasound.
