Oh I’ve done the drive thing also. Only for some Malines chicks. They lived about 6 months then got real sick and died. 4 hours one way. The hen laid about 4 eggs before she died. I’ve often said that I had a $400 breakfast from them.Bought, and NOT cheap. My BFF and I packed all 5 of our kids in the car and drove two hours one way to pick them up. After moving that tree last night I got zero done today. I feel like a cold is coming on. Hoping for better tomorrow. I did feed chickens and got the hatching incubator dialed in a little betterI hope everyone had a good day I got some cleaning done, I went for a ride, and broke up cockfights stupid roosters I let both coops out today for the first time in a while and then I'll head to prove who they were I guess.
Well, it's about time to head back to the barn. I will be glad in more ways than one when these two does get done kidding. I don't have another one I have to stay up and watch for a month so other than having to do late night feeding an early morning bottle feeding I might be able to get a better night's sleep.
Experimenting is good!So I wonder what a good mix would be? They also are anti fungal which helps. Oregano is one plant recommended in most companion planting books. I do know that the tomatoes next to it did real well as far as growth but not as good in production. The one that had stinging nettles next to it the root system was huge compared to others and many tomatoes. I think I’ll do an experiment this year. Putting the tomato that did so well last year next to oregano and the nettle individually. Then take the one that didn’t do well last year and do the same. Which means I’ll have to start more of the green tomato seed from last year. Interesting.
Any peas planted here have to be planted with chicken wire darn gophers. I’ve all but given up on cucumbers as the aphids take over.Experimenting is good!
Did you try to plant next to plant from the Fabaceae family (Legume,) ? Peas, beans, chickpeas? They fix Nitrogen from the air ( by a symbiotic microbes called Rhizobium) and they are wonderful to other plants.
Sounds like you need a package of ladybugs for your aphids!Any peas planted here have to be planted with chicken wire darn gophers. I’ve all but given up on cucumbers as the aphids take over.
It seems that you grow some delicious vegetables if so many criters love them so much!Any peas planted here have to be planted with chicken wire darn gophers. I’ve all but given up on cucumbers as the aphids take over.
