EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Good!
Just discovered yesterday that I need to build another coop, to replace the first one; the one I bought. I didn't figure it to last as long as it has; wouldn't have if I hadn't painted it. Now I can't decide what to make it out of, plywood or pallet wood. I have both, but not enough of either, & I can get pallets free for the taking & hauling. I have the tool to break them down without busting up the planks. I'd really like to use trees that are split vertically, flat sides in, like a log cabin. That would look really neat, but it'd be a lot more work, since I don't have a draw knife or any way to split wood that long, other than by hand. A portable saw mill would be really handy. I'll do the new one like I did the last one, using the one I'm replacing as a pattern. The design doesn't look bad, it's functional, and it'll fit onto the raised platform. Besides, since I've already made one, another should be easier, providing I don't make all the same mistakes.
The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward the plywood. There'd be a lot less framing to accommodate the pallet planks, I think; need to measure it.
What’s the diameter of the logs you have? If small enough would leaving them whole work?

I have one more coop I want built, But my hubby insists on keeping with the look we started with. Wood frame with metal siding and metal roof.... the roofing is green the siding is silver corrugated, looks nice should last almost forever. View attachment 1547491 ok so you can't see the roof here but you get the basic idea.
I like the split wood look. Gives me an idea for the door on the front of mine. I have a hanging barn door track I’ve been wanting to use since I moved in here. I’ll have to see if I can build something that will work for the front.
