Ain’t he purrrrrdy?

Hatch Post-mortem question: So I analyzed some of our "hatch debris" (sadly, we lost about 2/3 of the embryos that were viable at day 17) in hopes of doing better next time around. We got five live chicks out of 16 eggs, and one of those had to be assisted due to getting glued in pretty solidly. One of the casualties definitely pipped from a malposition at the wrong end, and hit a blood vessel in the membrane, bleeding out (I was out of town at the time, and my teen didn't remember to keep checking on that one).

The others are a mystery to me. Of the ones I looked at, there were no internal pips, what appeared to be fully developed chicks, large air cells, but a good bit of fluid under the membranes, and the membranes translucent but a bit leathery, definitely dry on the air cell side. We incubated as recommended from several sources for a dry hatch approach to support the Olandsk Dwarfs, which apparently have a tendency to drown in shell. We kept between 30-40% humidity till lockdown, then 50-55% (reportedly there was one low dip to 45% briefly) during lockdown. Anyone with experience hatching ODs have any thoughts?

No, I don’t know about the dwarfs. I do know at lockdown they aren’t going to drown. Perhaps the low humidity was too much.
As far as the liquid inside (if I’m understanding correctly), it seems that there was a lot of fluctuations during incubation.

MC I will add, male rabbit urine is freaking discusting.... I would get females any day of the week.... esp if inside pets!! not sure how much that decreases AFTER nueter though you need to ask about it
In that case I would hold out and spend the $$ on females. But I do see furry friends in her future :thumbsup

WOW looks like you know what your doing! Are you keeping track of time spent? Interested in that and also what you would do different as you go! I priced anvils on marketplace used, OMG they are expensive!
No, I don't keep track, but it is hours, but I enjoy it very much.
A piece of tree trunk with 0.4 m of rail on it, WILL do fine as an anvil.

That is probably about it but even then it won't look that abnormal until the animal has had it for years.
Having lived through the "mad cow" era and seen how it devastates young and old, I would not want to eat any species known to be at risk. Prions are nasty.
Sheep tend to have them more then other. The MCD statred with British business man using sheep's industry leftovers for making meat flakes as a protein rich sources fo the cow feed industry. And that included the central nerves system and the spinal cord, the maine parts that prisons are found.
Lybian origin Jewish, like me, have the CJD more in the genetic form. So if I start to talk nonsense more then the usual send me to a brain check!
