EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Well, I needed feed, and I am impatient. I now have ten new chicks.
“Ameraucana”, BR, “RIR”, Rainbows, and Welsummer. One BR wasn’t too active, and I took it anyway. They have a replacement policy, but I took it knowing it’s likely to not make it. Anyway, here are the babies. Duckling was happy to pick them out.

The black lump on the bottom left is the weak one. I just got home, and will give it electrolytes in a minute.

You do know that I'm overrun with brooders fill of right now lol. Congrats on the new babies :)

The BR is gone. Aside from pasty butt, it had blood coming up.
What on earth?!

I did (and perhaps even more now) consider it was squeezed too tight.
I like being able to pick out my birds. I don’t like the first family that was with me in the area. Duckling is not out of my sight for more than a few seconds ever. At 18-ish months, there’s no way I let her be near the feed store heat lamps (here either, but it was one brooder, one lamp, and less excitement) unattended!! :th I was watching two children, and grateful Duckling was mostly watching the toddler too.
Anyway, the parents weren’t even buying poultry, but he kept picking them up.

No, not usually anymore. Although that is how I started my Cemani’s and Marans a few years ago. And my quail. The rest I have been breeding for years and injecting new blood into. Have 13 established varieties plus the mixed layers.
