EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I burned out after doing this for years and turned all of my birds out together for 2018. Didn’t round them all back up until end of October 2018 and started back to incubating Jan 1. It was nice to take a little time off. Easy to identify with the legbands.
Really glad I banded the two different sellers for White Cornish however I lost the only hen of one of them and there’s only 3 of the other sellers hens. 9 roosters some will be culled.

Another chick was too lethargic. I got most of the poo off its bum, and it seems okay.
They are settled in now, so I’m checking all bums this morning. I wanted them to be calm before I messed with them. As bad as the first two chicks were, that decision was a bad one. I can’t imagine how newborns would be that bad. Poor things!

Well, I needed feed, and I am impatient. I now have ten new chicks.
“Ameraucana”, BR, “RIR”, Rainbows, and Welsummer. One BR wasn’t too active, and I took it anyway. They have a replacement policy, but I took it knowing it’s likely to not make it. Anyway, here are the babies. Duckling was happy to pick them out.

The black lump on the bottom left is the weak one. I just got home, and will give it electrolytes in a minute.

Cute

Good morning. Made it to 68 yesterday more today. Rain end of week. Taking today off to work on coop. Hopefully get it finished enough to move birds.

Good morning. Good luck with the coop today.

We're supposed to get to 40 and rain this afternoon. Then 3 days of single digits and below zero. Wednesday is staying below zero all day. Brrrrrr
