EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I had to take my oldest cat to the vet a few weeks ago because she stopped eating and dropped a bunch of weight. She's pretty much skin and bones. The vet told me that the muscles in her jaw were getting weak and that's why she stopped eating her dry food. She's on wet food now. I just got off the phone with the vet (giving him regular updates on how she's eating and drinking) and this man told me it's great to hear that she's trying to tear up the bathroom counter (she has taken up residence and refuses to leave). It's inconvenient, but at least I know she's gaining strength even if she still looks and feels boney. She just turned 12 and I was afraid I would have to put her down.

She's not done fighting yet. No pics because I can't find any old ones right now and she still looks awful.
My mother's got a cat in much the same state and has to do the same thing with him (feed wet food). Glad to here your kitty is doing ok.

We've had some form of precipitation well over half of the days over the last couple months. We've had rain, freezing rain and snow for the last 4 days straight. Poor birds looking for dust baths. Two groups can get under their buildings for some dry dust. None of the rest can.

What breed is that? This is the wildest breed I've ever raised.
Bielefelders and they are the calmest so far. No screaming when picked up to transport. And they don’t fly around too much while in coop to get them. Nice actually

We've been about the same. Some of the chickens go up against the house to dust bath, I really wish they wouldn't. Out at my lake cottage the lake is currently 7 feet above where the want it, it was 9+ over, maybe heading in the right direction.

The chickens have a dust bath against the house too. Maaco found it, and it got bigger.

Wow! I forgot what it was like to pick up a chicken that didn't scream.
The only way I can grab one is to pluck it off the roost at night.

I had a dust bath in one of the pens in a big cement mixing tub. But the roof blew off and it has stayed like a frozen mud bath ever since.
Frozen ground with a 1/2" of slip and slide mud on top.
After low 20s tonight, we're warming up for 3 days and then another week of deep freeze.

My mixed mutts would scream bloody murder. You could half way get them to stop by throttling their neck a bit. The neighbors probably wondered what the heck I was doing.

I hold their legs with one hand and tuck the head under the same armpit and hold the wings with the other hand. That either stops the squawking or at least muffles them.
