EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My new knife, inspired by the USMC iconic knife, the famous
Ka-bar. Made from spring steel, with brass hand guard and leather disc handle.

I don't need sympathy but wanted to explain why I haven't been on in a while.
My brother died early yesterday morning. I'm not sure what the underlying cause was but he was to be 79 soon. He was the eldest sibling, I was the youngest at 10 years his junior.
He had had some health problems for about 10 years or so. Even before he was ever sick, he and his wife didn't have a good diet. Mostly sugar and fat. Rarely a vegetable. When my wife and I would visit, breakfast was ham, bacon, sweets like donuts, strudels, butter cake, etc.. There was an egg thrown in here and there. If they ate a salad, it was iceberg lettuce.
He quit eating completely about 2 weeks ago. He was in a nursing home almost 300 miles away. I called the home at 6AM Thursday and said I wanted to visit and wanted to know if I could. The night nurse asked how I was related. I said he was my brother. He said, "Oh, you're good, come on ". So my daughter, who lives about 40 minutes from my house drove up, picked me up and we drove the nearly 5 hours down there. They wouldn't let me see him. They were only allowing spouse and children. That wouldn't have bothered me if they had told me that on the phone but causing my daughter to drive over 10 hours in a day upset me. His 3 sons drove down from St. Louis and got there about 30 minutes before we did. His daughter and wife arrived shortly thereafter. His wife tried to get me in and they wouldn't allow it. I understand the rules. Then they suggested I go to the outside window, call him and they would put the phone to his ear. That was good. Then one of his sons opened the window so my daughter and I could talk to him through the window and see him better. His ex-wife/son's mother was able to speak to him by phone and the boys said he smiled when she told him her name.
We left about 5 PM and by 10 PM a priest came to administer last rites. 4 hours later he passed. He may have been waiting for that sacrament and seeing us.
Please don't overload me with condolences, I'm OK. He clearly was ready to go.
I really do love you all.
