EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Close.... Drawdown is where the AC tilts to the side and grows larger in preparation for internal pip.

Finally found the pic I wanted. Day 18 death, has drawdown.

So drawdown means death? Or the egg in the pic is dead? So the air cell on day 18 grows bigger for the chick to hatch but if it gets too big, like in your egg then the embryo died?

No, you can see day 18 tracing on the egg. All further AC development is drawdown. It is perfectly normal and happens in preparation for internal pip; this one just happened to be malpositioned so drawdown was as far as it got. Sorry for the confusion!!

Drawdown has nothing to do with whether the embryo is alive or dead. One can have a live embryo that hadn't lost enough weight and a live embryo that has lost more than ideal.
Drawdown just refers to the amount of moisture lost.
An egg should lose 0.65% of the weight per day for optimal weight loss. One doesn't need to candle if they weigh eggs.
