EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Need help? I have 2 different batches in the incubator. A week or so apart. I'm coming up on lock doe. And don't know what to do. Some eggs need to be locked down and more humidity and some need lower humidity and to be kept turned. Any suggestions?

I would increase the humidity to 65% until the first batch are done hatching, and hand turn the eggs due a week later. At that point turning for them will be at a less critical time.
When the first lot are done hatching check the aircells of the second lot and see if they need more or less humidity and adjust accordingly.

I hatch eggs a week apart all the time in the same bator and they do fine.  Having them on different shelves in a cabinet does make it easier though.

To turn them manually he will need to open the incu. 3 times a day, in mid lock down. .......

Sleep?? What's that? I will say I'm glad I fall asleep easily. They cant seem to get synced with sleep cycles so seems like one of them wakes up about every hour to hour and a half. They are growing like crazy and are doing really well so I will take it.

Loved raising twins! Mine are 16 now and I'm still alive.

They were never, ever in sync about anything. Eating, sleeping, learning to walk and talk. Both on their own, different schedules all the time. I never slept more than an hour when they were babies.
Glad to hear that they are doing great!

Don't lock down per se. Raise the humidity but continue to turn younger eggs till you get a pip of the older ones.
Since the second batch are at 2 weeks, turning is less critical now than it was the first 2 weeks.
Keep the humidity up till all the chicks are out. The higher humidity won't hurt the later eggs much. After you take the chicks out, let it dry out till the next lockdown.

ChickenCanoe this for you

Thanks for sharing. I liked it.
It reminded me of a story I saw about how the Easter Island carved heads were theorized to have been moved to their locations.

I've had to figure out ways to do 2 and 3 man jobs by myself many times.

After 14 days turning is less critical (some say not necessary at all) so even if he turned them once a day or even not at all I suspect they would all be just fine.
As for "lockdown" I would avoid opening the Bator only after the first egg from the first set egg pips (if they are still hand turning set 2).

I think that all this talking, made it hungry, it seems that it gain weight, the LED kind of weight!

Yes, he unfortunately passed away from lead poisoning shortly after we talked.

Looks like it was a one way conversation. If not it at least appears you got the last word in. Very nice congrats.
Thanks. How are things with the new additions?
