OK, Day 14 today, so I got weights and candled. All 10 GNH NN cross eggs are doing fantastic, all kicking like crazy, air cells right on target, as are weights. They are in the Brinsea, running an extremely stable 100.4F, 35% humidity. I love this thing.

HOWEVER... Marans eggs in the R-Com have been at 50-55% (calibrated) humidity, and the air cells have still grown SO MUCH MORE!!! One of them has now lost 19.5%! What the heck is wrong with these eggs/shells?! In candling, the air cells match the weights. Looks like there's "stuff" in there, but too hard to see whether they are alive - too hard to see veins. The temperature in the R-Com is bouncing around way too much for my liking, though I don't believe it's been in the death zone (though I suppose it could have been in the night). I have the humidity cranked up to the highest it will go (70% by the setting on the incubator). Not much else I can do, is there? Should I wet the eggs or something? This is crazy...

(sigh)

Maybe it wasn't meant to be. We'll see, I suppose.

oh man, I am sorry Kristen, dont wet the eggs no!!!! that will cause them to loose even more! is the fan directly on them, move them as far away as you can

Here is a picture of Snowflake, She is a late (June) hatch, she is moving tomorrow to her new home. She was not happy when I informed her late this afternoon of the move..... And here is a view of my Yokohama Rooster, the hens are in the background, They were on the roost when I took Snowflake into the pole barn so I snapped the picture that shows his great tail (for a cockerel). My first Yokohama chick should hatch a week from today.
My Phoenix, Joaquin, looks similar to your Yokohama!

I wonder when he'll notice...

"Dear, why are these chicks so big?!"

About the leaking roofing

I found a great product for sealing up metal roofing to preserve it and keep water out. I can get the name if anyone wants it.
Me! Meeeeeeee!!!!! That's on my to do list. I need to spot patch it for underneath (in the attic) until I replace it (hoping to put that off until remodeling altogether) - it was installed wrong (before I bought it), so it leaks through the screw holes.

Something like that would help...

Quote: me too, I am so glad that I let the pair or crele free in the goat and kid yard this morning, that gave the dog somethign to chase and I think the goats saved goose or vice versa, the dog wouldnt come back in the yard or even go close to the goats and they had goose in the middle of them, was really amazing to be honest, I freaked about my goose ran out in my pjs, yes had them on most the day lol, but thank God she was fine, I realize how much I like her, a bit more than I thought!!
Whew - that's a relief! I want gooserz sooooooo bad - more than I want ducks.

@duluthralphie , if I get gooserz, I'll invite you over so you can walk through the poopy yard in your flip flops - I know how much you like doing that...

Quote: It's hard - lots of vents all around for the R-Com. I just did some rearranging to move a little farther away from the vents. But in the Brinsea they were actually furthest from the fan and still lost crazy lots of weight while the other eggs were fine. Something's wrong with these egg shells, I'm thinking. I'll lock them down anyway and we'll see what we get.

Are all the eggs from your own flocks?

Yup. And all from pullets the same age form the same breeder (though different breeds). Same food, same set up, but different breeding tractor coops. Not sure what it could be...
