EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Speaking of weirdo's,,,

I have decide the WWD is a weirdo, she is now refusing to clean and disinfect the hatcher. She knows I have eggs to move into it, but acts if she does not care.

I need a more caring spouse. So I am taking applications for people to be my spouse, Being a simple person I have just a few requirements:

Must clean chicken coops.
Must weed gardens
Must disinfect eggs, incubators and hatchers
Must make me 2 good meals a day and one lunch
Must serve me coffee, several times before noon.
Must bring me beer upon request.

if any other requests should come from me I expect prompt compliance with no griping..

Please submit your resume immediately. If you do not hear back from me do not take it personally, I expect to be swamped with replies and will only get back to those making the first cut..

Thanks,,,

I use one ounce of bleach in one gallon of water per the USDA requirements in my state for NPIP.

I know many people do not disinfect. I have not noticed a difference in hatch rate since I started it.

Because of that and as the USDA vet said "why let a disease get a foothold in an incubator if it makes no difference"

SO I sterilize everything when hatching, eggs, trays, incubators hatchers and brooders.

Quick question about turning eggs...If they are hatching on a flat, non-tilting surface, should they be turned 180 degrees entirely at every turning? Or just rolled a little each time? And, alternately, if I have a platform of eggs in Styrofoam cartons that CAN be tilted (the whole platform at once), should it tilt from one slope ALL THE WAY to the opposite slope all at once? From reading the Incubation information post that Sally wrote, it says somewhere at least 38 degrees. So 38 degrees one way and then 38 degrees the other way? I drew a pic just to try to explain what I'm saying:
