Quote:I honestly don't recall, I have a hard time telling NN and Nn apart right at hatch when they're wet. Yes, these are Aloha Naked Necks I got from alohachickens (she was learning how to ship eggs, I was a test run for it at a discount, and she got feedback to improve. Are the 2 top images of the same chick?
These are beautiful!
Are they naked necks) They were indeed lovely, if a little undersized. Unfortunately, they were raised in the same brooder and growout pen with CL chicks of mine and one of my CLs died of Avian Leukosis (which is what killed her mother in retrospect - I didn't know until it was too late). Read lots and lots and lots of papers before coming to the conclusion that there was too much risk of them getting it from their sick broodmate during that 0-4 week period (and having tolerance and shedding it at high levels for the rest of their lives). I had to destroy all of them in that group (CLs and Aloha NNs alike). I sobbed while doing it, as in the end it was a bunch of beautiful POL girls.![]()
I'm getting more Aloha NNs from her again this year - I'm so glad to have another chance. (Even if it will mean a really busy year with lots of chicks.)
They're still unfamiliar enough with the scale that most of them freeze at least briefly. Can't help you with the poop thing. Diapers?you need to train the beepers to pose and not poop on me when I try to take their pics![]()

Quote: No, it's the bottoms of four of those thin clear plastic 6-egg cartons, with the bottom cut out. Worked well in this case.
Thanks! I don't have them any more (see sad story above), but hope to have more very soon! (If the weather cooperates for shipping of chicks, I'll get them in a couple weeks.)

I need a playpen for them!! they are outgrowing the rubbermaid tub!!!I honestly don't recall, I have a hard time telling NN and Nn apart right at hatch when they're wet. I gotta say its the bator!!! I had my 4H buddy hatch some and he got a 75% hatch rate! 16 years old-new to incubating followed brinsea directions and a really nice hatch!!! If this one flubs, I'm breaking out the cabinet on april fools!!!Kristin, how do you get 7 hatchers from such a mess whilst I can get eggs in near-perfect condition and still have a lousy hatch rate?? What's your secret??![]()

You have a good point - the Brinsea is super steady. And the turning process is so gentle that after a few days of no turning to try to reattach the air cells, I started the turning again on the cradle without negative effect. (Did you see there's a new one, the Ovation?)
Thank you so much! I will be sure to read everything! I hope I get the same experience. Out of the 12 eggs, 2 were cracked in half, 2 had small cracks, and 8 looked fine. For the 2 that aren't that badly cracked, I heard that I can patch the crack with scotch tape? Is this true?SO sorry. But don't give up - you may be able to get some to hatch. Wash the yolk from the uncracked ones by following the "washing eggs" instructions very carefully (from the links at the beginning of the thread - bleach solution at the right temperature), then let them rest with big end upright for a day, then incubate upright with gentle turning - see the notes for shipped eggs and funky air cells. I got this:![]()

And got 7 healthy live chicks out of it (with help from this thread). [COLOR=B42000]
