Had to fend for myself for dinner tonite. Wife went into town to Olive Garden with some girlfriends. So eggs, bacon and toast it was. All the kids are gone. She just texted and said she had a piece of cheesecake for me, so I guess I'll let it slide this time. LOL
Oooooh... to keep kicked stuff inside. Yeah, I have one that's a few inches high, only partially effective for the baby chicks, but this is in a "non-living" space (at least no one's living there now). Easy enough to replace them with bigger boards. (You guys are terrible enablers...) I LOVE that second photo! Amazingly cute! Nope, it's just chore day, at least for me. Yeah, I've done a lot, and I think I might not have enough gas left to do the extra cleaning. But I sure have enough OTHER things I have to do, so maybe I'll do one of those. I need to finish the fencing tack-down for the Eggplant's new paddock, maybe I'll do that. (I'm also here at the computer because I'm about to put my bread in the oven - I lost track of time and my timer got messed up, so the loaf rose longer than I planned - shaping it was like juggling a big half-filled water balloon.) Go duckies, go duckies, go duckies, go duckies... OK, gotta put the bread in the oven... - Ant Farm
I have a recipe too, It is a high protein treat for chickens.. Take a coffee can of ground corn, 1/2 can of BOSS sprinkling of oats Fold in 4 baby rodents.... pound like crazy with a baseball bat... Feed it to the chickens..They love it... * Dan I can tell you what to substitute for the rodents if you want.....
thank you Kristin, its to keep shavings inside and not all over your floor, so that up to you. I have serama started hatching a little bit ago pics soon WOW addictive isnt it!! And think how long you put off finishing that bator! wait, thats me not you???? Hi Justin oh such joy!!! QUOTE] Quite. Rub it in. Yeah.
My breeders are in pairs and trios. I will start to separate the ones I am planning on showing as long as the are clean and healthy. I have some pet flock that just wander aimlessly with a couple LF pet birds. So glad the garage got done-I don't know how I would have managed otherwise. It would be so much easier if it were warm out. They get chilled so quick. They do love their baths though! I tried to spray a few and with my hand it wasn;t working so I went to bath mode and they did much better
Quote: Now, now, plenty of people bake. One of these days imma come up there and bake with you. (If it makes you feel any better, I had to do that with my mother, twice, over Christmas, before she got the hang of dealing with the starter and the baking.)

Yeah, the main reason I have started refusing to help is that I've had to euthanize two chicks. It had to be done, but it was horrible. Don't want to invite any more experiences like that unless I have to.
Mmmmmmmmm, love those fresh heels with butter. After all, you have to cut the heel off to get the first proper slice. And you can't let it go to waste...
bout an hour or so ago, dead? oh no! I rarely loose any in the brooder using the pre-pro biotics I use the first week. Little bit goes a loooooongggg way too!
I only ever had issues when I hatched the icelandics, no clue why, was weird. But hatching them from this flock now I havent lost any after hatch.
Poultry ProVita is suggested as a supplemental source of vitamins and direct-fed microbials (probiotics) along with Inulin (prebiotics) for backyard poultry. It can be used for all classes of poultry during times of stress. Poultry ProVita is best for use daily or during:
Sally, I got some of this and have been using it for the first week or two of life with this year's chicks. They are all doing so well and growing so well - you can tell! Now that Monkey is inside with his mild bumble foot (and freaky scaled feet), he gets the second half of the batch I made up for the chicks (since it usually just gets thrown away - I make 1/2 gallon at a time with 1/2 scoop).
Quote: I always went through that with my mother. If I was making them, I'd sneakily try to leave a lot of dough in the bowl, and then make sure to volunteer to clean up.
I have no idea why I typed brooder instead of incubator. I was outside all day working on doubling the size of my run. Right now I have my four bantams in with the main flock and I'm noticing the Buff O roosters doing the "Hey, baby, come here often? Come here and talk to me for a minute. I got cookies. Wanna see my etchings?" thing with my little hens so it's time for them to be moved to their own coop and run before they get flattened by my over amorous roosters.

Quote: I hate it when that happens. It won a Darwin award, but it's still sad.
Well, I got a lot done, but have now officially run out of gas. And I have an early morning tomorrow. Just finished a chicken, bacon, and cheddar pizza, now taking a bath. Then comes the struggle of staying awake long enough for my hair to be at least somewhat dry...
