I read you could do it every other day to make sure your humidity is right, but now I'm thinking It'd be better if I didn't candle so much.

I personally candle on day 10 and then day 18 for chicken and day 24 for ducks. I pull infertile/quitters on day 10 and let the rest cook. If it has not quit by the 10th day it is generally going to make it to lock unless something goes wrong in incubation. Candling them a lot does more harm them good. honestly, most of the time I set them and then forget about them until I hear chirping in the incubator. I have had chicks and ducklings hatch in the Turning trays in my Sportsman cabinet and fall to the hatching tray and be fine. Not that I recommend letting that happen but that is how much success I've had using that incubator without the incubation being perfect.

If humidity and temp is good then generally everything goes smoothly. I do open the incubator and give it the sniff test on a daily basis. If something doesn't smell right then I will check everything until I find the stinker. I incubate all of my eggs upright and hatch in cartons. I have had much better success with hatch rates this way. The only thing I incubate on its side are my call duck eggs because they do not do well in a Turner. My Ancona ducks do just fine hatched and incubated upright.

Thanks, but it's totally minor - I'm just being a bit whiney. It's just irritating to be tired when there's so much to do.

Benny, I made those energy bars - the dates I had were kinda old (but had been stored and in my fridge, so ok) - they were a bit dry, so I added a lot more coffee to moisten it up. Nothing wrong with that! They were extremely easy to make. They're chilling in the fridge now.

They look good. Reminds me of some energy bars that I make (pecan, date, coconut), glad you posted your picture because I really need to make some of mine and re-stock the freezer.

So i just looked up on TSC's site, NH stores wont have chicks until 3/13
i dont plan on buying any but i like to go see them

I am taking some of Abi's ducks in a couple weeks! I think I have lost my mind to drive nearly 900 miles with ducks in the back of my car.

Oh, and I'm hatching chicks for the school again in April, so we will be able to just keep them all now since we lost most of our flock.
