My husband let me take pictures of him processing the chickens. We did our two big cochin roosters, those beasts were heavier than I thought they'd be. He used a couple of technique methods that really made plucking take about 2 minutes. the actual killing took maybe 2 minutes, it took longer for us to catch the beasts.
He's gutting them now - which shouldn't take too long.
He only had time for 2, he has other stuff he wants to work on - so next week, we'll be doing the 4 ducks.![]()
Awesome!!! Congrats!!
dont just put them in there, I have a ledge under my nesting boxes that littles can get away, only issue is if they head outside even a much older new bird can get its head all bloodied and ripped apart by the others, I always put them in as a group and plenty of places the big ones cant getI have a question..... I am anxious to integrate my young pullets in with my older birds. The older birds are 5 months - 2 hens and 1 rooster. Plus 2 guineas- breeding pair also juvenile. My pullets are 10 weeks old but only 1/2 the size of the older ones. When can they must be one flock. I am nervous because I have seen older birds kill younger ones but when is it safe.

It's a little... stringier? then the stuff from the store. I'm not sure how to explain it. It was chewier? Tasted more flavorful than the stuff from the store, but the meat was chewier.dont just put them in there, I have a ledge under my nesting boxes that littles can get away, only issue is if they head outside even a much older new bird can get its head all bloodied and ripped apart by the others, I always put them in as a group and plenty of places the big ones cant get

Quote: you should always rest the meat via brining at least 24 hrs longer for older ones, and perhaps use the older birds as
stock meat for soups etc
