Ok, you guys would probably know, i bough a dozen eggs, and decided last minute that I wanted to hatch one of my eggs in there too. The hen is a black austrolorp, and rooster is a larger serama boy, the one in my profile picture. Anyone crossed that before? Or something similar? Im wondering if its going to hatch large and then just not grow as much?

We had a rough Winter, but we're still kicking. I had out of the blue double by-pass 1st week of Feb. Just got clearance to "return to normal activities", depending on who you're talking to.

Hey all, just popping in for some advice. I can't keep up with this thread on a daily basis. [@=/u/162672/Sally-Sunshine]@Sally Sunshine[/@] Incubating turkey eggs. Still air styrofoam incubator with automatic egg turner. Day 3 today. Last night, the temp was not stabilized, and a couple hours after I had turned up the temps, the temp was 105!! It was only that warm for an hour or so. Last night, when I came home at 1:00am (late movie) the temp was about 101. When I woke up at 7 am, the temp was 106! Did I kill them all? Has anybody made this boo boo before and had any hatch? I only have 5 eggs on there.

Well.... we have 110 degree weather here in texas, and some how, stuff manages to hatch under broodies with these temps........... so while high temps are bad - it may not kill them if you can keep the temp stabilized from this point forward.

Why didn't I get an email that you responded? Grrrr! Well, just be sure that your head is sewn on tight! My plans for the weekend are to stop being lazy. I may not be able to handle cleaning the coops yet, but I really should get the house tamed. Especially since I lost a new book I had gotten Duckling. I think despite her protests that it is a horrible story, @heatherfeather7 stole it.

Now I am sad. First, thank you for thanking me. I have had some doozies when it comes to landscapers. Despite cutting my power line to the coop, I didn't want to lose the last guy. For all the times that I fretted that he was going to switch to another company like the others, he SWORE he wasn't ever going to leave me. Like really really really. I have heard that before, but this guy was adamant! Guess who texted me, "I am going to another company, and won't be in your area anymore" yesterday? The guy didn't know that I had mint as he mowed it down again and again. I guess it will finally grow back now... And I will have to be very careful to keep any oils contained in the house (Heather will hopefully be visiting again).

No, you didn't kill them all. It takes a while for the internal temp to reach the external.

Thanks! I will keep the temp more stabilized, now that I will be home the rest of the weekend to keep an eye on it.

I've done it. Anything over 104.5 for several hours can be considered fatal in the first couple weeks. Late in incubation, they are tolerant of much wider temp swings. I shoot for 100 and if I adjust that crappy thing, I check back every hour till I'm sure it has stabilized. Adding water or eggs will cause it to drop for a while so I don't adjust very often.
