EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My little chick that made it. It's 1 day past hatch date. The incubator is going just in case some more decided to join. But seems like a long shot.
The chick seemed a little weak day 1 in the incubator. Lots of laying on his or hers belly. I moved it to the brooder and it took about 12 hours but it's moving around and chirping.

We just had this conversation with someone else...who I shall not name.;) :lau

Our insurance costs increase a fair bit with a wood stove. And I don't believe you could put one in and run it until the whole thing was "inspected and approved." I think some insurance companies might even balk if it isn't a grandfathered situation. I know of someone who purchased a house...but couldn't use the fireplace because of the insurance.

They have issues with wood stoves in Canada? No problems when I did my addition and put a wood stove in it here.

Maybe, but I am spoiled with the in-floor heating and rebel at giving up my toasty floors :lau

Heated floor is more than a bit spoiled! :lau

You have in floor heat??? :tongue No fair!!!!

I loved the in floor heat at the barn. So toasty on my footsies. :love

Floor heat in a barn? What is going on in Canada?

The storm has really cooled us off..It's only 26 right now!:celebrate

Celcius?

Is that like how this new air conditioner is also a heater? I haven't got the darn thing hooked up yet.

Probably.

You mean one of those combo heaters? Yeah, those aren't very efficient, but I guess they'd work there.

Pretty impressive. How many do you know?

You mean a ductless split system? Those are pretty efficient.

I did my first hatch on shipped eggs. I am a little confused about the air cell poistion. I have a styrofoam incubator with egg turner. The eggs were shipped pointy end down. I let them rest for a day pointy end down. I put them in the turner pointy end down. I candled a few times. 6 of the 17 eggs looked to be devolping correctly on day 10. The air cells in all the eggs were at the bottom in the pointy end. Is that the correct poistion? Everything I can find says it should have been in the fat end.
I had 1 chick hatch and 1 die after zipping the wrong end.
Below is a picture at day 4 or 5.

Thanks for the help. Trying to learn for next time.

Wow...google's going to take over the world the way it's going. Can't get over some of the stuff. I just sent a grain contract away...and it caught that I had typed that I'd attached files...and reminded me I hadn't attached anything yet. :th
Dang I wish I had stocks in it. :barnie

Wait, your impressed they are reading your private email?

Yes, they sleep a lot at first. Hatching through an egg is hard work.
