EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I mix my starter with water. They love it. Drink less water that way as well

Might try sifting the ground stuff if mixing it with water doesn't work
That's a really good idea too! That's how my Gran used to feed the chickens and they LOVED it. (It was a chopped grain mixture) but that should make it so the crumbles break down so the wee guys can eat it. :clap

Are they free range commercial or egg factory commercial? if free range give hatching them a try and find out.

@ChickenCanoe I have hatched eggs that are a month old, not a great return but some hatch. 2 weeks has very little drop from a week that I can see. My broodies run 15 eggs in the nest many times so that's over two weeks worth of laying.

For the price of a dozen eggs it would be worth the try,,IMHO...Go for it Bennie!!!!
They aren't free range, maybe I will put a dozen in the incubator and see if something develops, I do love the color!
The thumb rule is that hatchability decreases 2% every day from the laying time. One week will reduce almost 15% a month will reduce 60%, so I assume that 30%-40% of that batch hatched if nothing elss disturbed it.

This kind of experience REALY make you appreciate the simple things in life, like running water, that we usually intended to refer to them obviously !
Good for you, and PLEAS WATER YOUR ANIMALS FIRST!

Probably a good idea. I've hatched the fertile eggs here from Trader Joe's while they hatched good I wasn't impressed with the eggs shape from the resulting hens. I didn't keep any of them.

I have wondered about those eggs......But I never hatched any as I am really trying to get all SOP birds..and my pet EE's...
