I was in the local Orschelns today and asked them when they were getting chicks in and they said the first of March. My plan is to pick up a few vaccinated bantam chicks from them, hopefully not Silkies and get lucky enough to get at least two roosters to add to my flock. The plan is to cross breed them with my Marek's resistant birds and hatch out chicks that will hopefully carry resistance for me.
In the mean time, spring has to be coming because I just picked up one of my two pure bred BBR pullets and holding her up at eye level said "PALEEEEEEESE start laying again so I can put some of your eggs in my incubator and hatch out some precious little fuzzy butts before I go out of my mind from chick withdrawal!"
Naturally she just chirped at me and begged to be put down so she could grab a few sunflower seeds.
It was this time last year that I put my first eggs in my little Brinsea. I don't know how I've lasted this long without cramming it full and starting the countdown!
