EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I was in the local Orschelns today and asked them when they were getting chicks in and they said the first of March. My plan is to pick up a few vaccinated bantam chicks from them, hopefully not Silkies and get lucky enough to get at least two roosters to add to my flock. The plan is to cross breed them with my Marek's resistant birds and hatch out chicks that will hopefully carry resistance for me.

In the mean time, spring has to be coming because I just picked up one of my two pure bred BBR pullets and holding her up at eye level said "PALEEEEEEESE start laying again so I can put some of your eggs in my incubator and hatch out some precious little fuzzy butts before I go out of my mind from chick withdrawal!"

Naturally she just chirped at me and begged to be put down so she could grab a few sunflower seeds.

It was this time last year that I put my first eggs in my little Brinsea. I don't know how I've lasted this long without cramming it full and starting the countdown!

I have love in my heart for the moment for my Canadian babies. Baby @BantyChooks & Baby @Wickedchicken6 has made the Grinch's heart grow 3 times it's normal size..

You want to understand something of this generation ? You can start here.
Somewhat, but we speak of the younger generations like they are the problem. They're not. We are the problem. The parents/grandparents/friends who didn't raise the younger generations to be adults and be confident in themselves. We raised them to be children who were problems/in the way so the kids were provided with tools to keep them quiet while the parents worked and indulged and made money for the material items that are "supposed" to bring forth all this happiness everyone speaks of instead of spending quality family and one-on-one time with them, listening to them and teaching them the important things they need to know to function as an adult.

I'm fortunate that most of the young individuals the boy hangs with have not been raised like that. They already have jobs, they pay their own way, they have responsibility and best yet...they can already think for themselves and believe in themselves without their parents. Very standup young adults.

There are those kids as he mentions. However I feel that parents and adults, in general, have forgotten that kids are people too. The children haven't been included in discussion and it appears that they've been excluded in general by adults.

I cannot believe how surprised kids look to be addressed by their name and as a person when I greet them with a smile on route. It's like they've never been included in anything. In a two week time period, with simple politeness, I've gotten entire busloads of students to greet me with a smile and good morning pleasantries, use good manners and leave from the bus after school with a friendly goodbye and well wishes. Their entire confidence and demeanor change substantially with those few basic kindnesses.
Be the change you wish to see. :)

I agree.
The responsibility of educating the young generation IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENTS! It is naive ,or even stupid, to think that what 2 parents can't do with 1 teanage at home, a teacher can do with 25 ( or 35 in my case) teenagers in the classroom .
We are fortunate to have the obligatory army service, 3 years for men 2 for women, You can't belive what 2 or 3 years of service do to the characters of young men and women.
