@Uff Da How is everything going? Have you locked up your children during lockdown yet? How are the chicks?
The more these chicks feather out, the less certain I am of what they are. On the bright side, one of mystery lavenderish chicks is feathering out and I can actually tell what it is. It's a Silver Laced Orp. Cool because I've had buff but not SL.
I'm trying to replace my two raised coops with a single 8x10 walk-in, for easier cleaning. My back chastizes me severely when I try to clean these two smaller ones. Can't believe the price of lumber, 'specially plywood. Try to find used lumber, but haven't had any luck yet. Already looking @ $300+ for flooring & studs; afraid to price out material for trusses., probably looking at that much again. Fortunately, I have 3 new corrugated roof panels I bought to redo the roof of one of the raised coops where the wind tore it up.Well...
We've pretty much given up with school, but I've been in touch with the teachers and they are OK with what we've got done, so I'm not stressed about it. We live in a small, rural community and the teachers know the educational value of spending springtime outdoors...I've not so much locked the kids up as locked them outside.
I lost 3 of my 5 chicks that hatched for the shipped eggs. Not sure why--they were all healthy and vigorous. I ordered more eggs, and am down to 10 out of 18 on day 7.
My air cells were much more damaged this time. The perils of working with a rare breed....
Husband went and bought some lumber, so I'm looking forward to getting a bigger coop some time this summer!
OH! And my biggest bit of news...I think I have a BROODY hen!![]()
I think for the rest of my life, used and scrap lumber will be one of those things I will buy when I see it, whether I need it or not. I see it all the time, until I intentionally look for it, and then none is available!I'm trying to replace my two raised coops with a single 8x10 walk-in, for easier cleaning. Sounds familiar. Been on CL, FB Marketplace, Western MD Yard Sale, & any other place I can think of in the last several days; no luck yet.I think for the rest of my life, used and scrap lumber will be one of those things I will buy when I see it, whether I need it or not.
