EE gender guessing by color? And the other babies too...now at 3-4 weeks

But calling them Easter Egger/Ameraucana only adds to the confusion. Call them what they are. It doesn't really matter what they were sold as.

Ok :) I'll edit...but what would you call them now having seen them all? Lol

They are clearly all the family's favorites :) much calmer and the colors make them extra cute and extra easy to clearly pick a certain chick...not just "one of the black ones" :) we also got 3 cornish rocks, 3 buff orpingtons but one died, and 3 black australtorps or however they are spelled :) the buffs are very different right now both in size and amount of grownup feathers...yhe cornish rocks are 3 times the size as the others and camp with the 2 pekin ducklings ;-) and then there is the black ones... all totally the same lol... :) and SO quick and flying everywhere... it's coolto see the difference of the breeds at this early age :)

Cornish Rocks are a breed specifically developed for rapid growth. They are the main meat bird in the US. They are not a long lived breed, even with the best possible management. They are bred to grow big and be butchered by 8 to 10 weeks old. If you try to keep them past that age, they will usually begin to develop health problems related to their rapid growth.

We got 12 chicks and can't keep all for eggs/pets...some are meant for meat...so all of the roosters (its not allowed to keep roosters where we live) and all three cornish rocks will be meat birds. Maybe a couple more too.. but most likely all pullet EE's will stay...and both the ducks will stay :) we already have 3 1year old layers too... :)

Sorry, it's the time of year that people start posting all about their darling new Cornish Rock/Cornish X babies. How they are so excited for their new pets and can't wait for those first eggs and all. It's amazing what feed store employees will tell chicken newbies to get those birds sold.

Wow...that's just sad... we very much knew and got them for meat birds...but I'm still amazed about the crazy growth and size difference! and last time we went to pick up supplies at tractor supply they only had left the cornish rocks and the ducks...so hopefully my store isn't pushing those on the wrong unknowing people... they had a sign telling they clearly are meat birds too
