I actually found the larger size to be easier to pass and less traumatic to use.
Good to know! I was worried 18 would be too large for my wee ladies, but then I remember the frogs they eat….!

An enema?! Everyone wants one?!

I am old enough to remember when I was a Nurse making soap suds enemas! What a process that was…! Just making up the enema was a process! Nurses today have it easy!

There are no trains in Newfoundland!

Plenty of pony and trap (that’s a cart for those who don’t know) though.

Oh and quads - latest mode of transport for hauling a moose out of the bush 😉👍

It’s walnut season! The nuts are dropping. And now every time I go out to the run to collect them, I have a little horde of chickens on my heels. Walnut is usually front and center. But those chickens are not getting all my walnuts!

Last year, when the started falling, I started collecting and my boyfriend thought I was nuts! He’s been on this farm for two decades, and always left them for the ground squirrels. :he I told them that’s not going to happen anymore, and we started having date nights where we just sat and listed to music and talked whilst shelling walnuts. Winner was the one who got the most whole brains at the end of the night (full walnuts with no breakage). It’s not as easy as you’d think! And then we gave bags of them away with oranges from our grove for Christmas presents. We got some comments, but now everyone’s asking if we can do it again. :barnie Which is great, but I think this year’s harvest isn’t as plentiful. It also means we have to ration the chickens’ portion. Right now they get the imperfects. Or the ones with bugs.

We have a grandpas treadle feeders and all ours use it fine. It’s less noisy if it’s put on a soft ground!
We gave up treadle feeders... the Silkies were too spooked & we had the bigger metal feeders on the ground. Funny that our smaller quieter feeder was on the patio cement & one standard chicken used it but never used the bigger noisier metal feeders on the ground. Such a waste of time, $$$, & feed!!! The Silkies preferred to starve than use the treadle, even when it was wide open w/ a weight & never had to move the treadle, they still refused it.

Dakota did not cooperate while I gave her a bath tonight. She was messy at her business end, and needed a good soaking .
She has everything a chook could ask for: ear of corn, cup of chopped steak, layer feed, chicken scratch feed, and me! And she’s still angry :he
