EE Gender help, please :-) Oops, maybe not EE after all!

This is exactly what I noticed. They're both pullets (they have the right size comb for their age and there are no pointed saddle feathers). They're not Easter Eggers -- Chickens bred from different colors of Ameraucanas will still breed Easter Eggers with pea combs and not wattles and usually have a muff and beard too.

For example: The two in the following pictures were came from a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana roo and a Blue Ameraucana hen - they are not colored correctly to be considered true Ameraucanas, but as Easter Eggers, they still have Ameraucana traits such as a beard, muff, pea comb, and lack of wattles.

The black pullet on the left is about 5 months old - she came from the same parents as the two above - the one on the right is the only one of 12 I hatched that did not have the muffs and beard, but she still has a pea comb and not wattles (she's from the Blue Wheaten roo and a Splash Ameraucana hen):

Update: Thats not a pea comb:) But she is a cutey! I don't know if crosses can have either comb type or if a pea is guaranteed. Maybe a mystery chick snuck in your batch? Im betting nice big brown eggs!!

It looks like there are stringy hackle feathers in this closeup pic, which would mean cockerel, but the saddle feathers are completely rounded and they would be long and pointy on a male chicken that was 16 weeks old. If the breeder doesn't even know what type of chickens she sold you (they're definitely not from Ameraucana hens and Ameraucana roos), maybe she didn't keep good records of their hatch day either. Maybe these two are only 12 weeks old instead and that could totally change our opinions on their sex.

I think the breeder is... disorganized, shall we say. I do have a picture from when I got them on July 20, so I don't think the age estimate is too far off. I'm guessing they're a couple weeks, at that point?

I would settle for brown eggs! She's been one of the friendliest so far, and I agree that she's a cutie

It looks like you're breeder's date was correct, after all. Then, I'll stick with pullets - at 16 weeks, cockerels would already have stringy saddle feathers - and these definitely don't.

I have no input on breeds and gender but I can say that the comb on the black one is a rosecomb. It looks exactly like the rosecomb on my golden sebrights. So if you are looking for breeds try to find a black chicken with rosecomb. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I really appreciate all the input

And, now that I know I have less EEs than I thought, I have an excuse to get more in the spring!!
