Are EE's combs a good way to judge gender?? Red vs pink/yellow??

I have a black and white EE that I thought was a roo BUT now I'm questioning myself. Wish they could just tell me!!! haha

A closer picture of the comb would be useful.

Often if the pea comb has three rows going straight back from the beak it's a rooster, but people on here will tell you they've had hens with triple peacombs. My EE hen had a very red, single-row pea comb from about 4 weeks. I did wonder if she was a roo, but none of the other characteristics arose.

Also look for red leakage on the wings. This is a telltale sign for EE roos. It would be especially relevant for yours since he's white and red on the shoulder will be easy to notice.

Your chick seems to have a yellowish comb.

"Looks" like a girl to me but I'm not sure. S/he's gorgeous though! Looks like a bird of prey. I love love love her coloring.

Im curious too because I have one who everyone here insisted was a roo but I still dont believe them. S/he looks identical to yours. Can you post a pic from above showing the back

looks like a pullet so far. now if she starts getting any red/brown looking coloring in on her wings then you will have a roo. of all the white and black ee's i have never seen a pullet with red/brown on the wings.

Sometimes the comb is obvious (even when it isn't 3 rows...) This is a 4-week EE cockerel with a single row of well-defined, reddening peas and the side rows are just beginning to emerge:

and at 10 weeks, you can clearly see the three rows:

This EE pullet had a wide comb with what appeared to be three rows of teeny-tiny pebbles -- it looked very butch. At 10 weeks, it was looking very odd:

(of all my EE girls, hers looks the most like a proper pea comb today)
