EE with a green sheen to "her" black feathers?

Has anyone ever had an EE pullet with those kinds of feathers? I will get a picture later but I am so very suspect Griselda is not Griselda.

I've never seen a black EE at all--only black Ameraucanas. But EEs come in so many colors!

I don't think green beetling is an automatic disqualifier for hen-ness. Lots of hens have black beetling. But post a photo so we can take a good look and give you better info.

Most all birds with black feathers have that purple/green sheen in the light. Australorps shimmer like crazy! It's no indicator of gender.

Oh that is good to hear! I will post a picture as soon as the kids are in school. I payed extra to have her sexed so I would be in the 1% chance (my pet chicken) that they got it wrong..

I agree, my black Australorp hens looked like they were totally green instead of black. And some birds get an awesome purple beetling, too. I had a black Ameraucana rooster that was DQ because he had both green and purple beetling. He was gorgeous.

All my black girls have a green shine to their feathers. AND I had a black EE that got wry neck and went broody, had to cull her, but she layed the prettiest large green egg. I have two bantams that I would swear were cochin bantams but one lays a green and the other a pink... They are all black also.

Here are pictures of Griselda the EE. Is she a Gilbert instead? As I said, I had her sexed when I ordered her from my pet chicken. I think their success rate in sexing chicks is pretty high isn't it? Oh and she is 7 weeks old.

Their success rate is 90%. Gilbert is part of the 10% that is not sexed properly.
