Egg Baskets

Quote:
My bestest freind is a talented basket weaver who graduated from Kent state in art with a option to stay as a prof in basket weaving. I have many woven baskets.. however they just don't do it for me.. They are colorful, pretty, some even with leather ( as I own a custom leather shop she did that for me) Im looking for something diffrent.. something with WOW..

Look at it this way.. if you had a 3yr that was doing what I do.. other than whooping thier bumms.. you would find a cool basket they would remember to carry. One they like.. with a 3yr mantality in mind LOL.. Whats an awesomely cool.. intresting .... egg basket?

LOL and in West Virginia!!

Well, as we are pretty slack in our egg production yet, I too usually just stick them in coat pockets or juggle them until I make it back indoors (the good news for me is that my dogs LOVE raw egg. They are handy to clean up my spills). If I get 7 (the most they've laid yet), I drop them in the feed scoop that lives out in the coop. I only have to remember to take it back outside once I get it in. So clearly I have the reverse problem.

This does sound like you should go shopping.

Have you looked at any of the hatcheries? They usually sell all sorts of chicken products. I remember seeing some basic red and blue wire egg baskets.

I live on ebay due to my location.. and the fact Im an egg cup freak and Yerba freak and get some good deals on mates on there. Can't buy either where I live. However all I see is the same ol same ol.. wire.. wire shaped like a chicken ( bid on that one) wire with lids ( great idea but ..bland) woven.. (yawn) now if they had a Tinkerbell basket.. or one that makes noise when you put an egg in.. I would be happy.. Im pretty simple.. really Im..

I also love victorian. Its like things either have to be kindergarden level, or very elite to make me happy. The middle of the road stuff.. it just doesn't do it for me.

I thought with the thousands of members here maybe someone was even crafty enough to make something wonderful? Why not?

I just use the very basic, boring, ice cream bucket. I keep several in the Hen Inn in case I forget to grab one on the way out the door. When I bring them in I can just wash them in the bucket and I'm good to go. Not fancy or expensive but it works for me. The girls are finally starting to lay again - I got 14 eggs tonight

I got myself an egg basket too....sitting in the pantry..lol. I have about a half a dozen of "older" egg cartons I keep in the cabinet in my henhouse and fill them as i go. Between all of my hens following me around every step I take, Im sure I would drop that basket if i started using it.

Sorry, I just had to bring this one back up. I was reading members answers to this post yesterday and so it was still fresh in my mind. We are just starting to get eggs from our girls ( maybe one to three per day) and I wondered if I'd ever really need an egg basket. So I sat in my misery...no egg basket and worse no need for one. Then this evening my DH comes in with a half crushed old cottage cheese carton full of eggs! Was I eggcited about the haul of eggs? No! all I could think was... "So I do have an egg 'basket' after all!" Its just made out of plastic and all beat up!
Don't you just love it?

I've only gotten three so far but all three went in my coat pocket! Sounds like it could become a habit...I'll have to get a basket, too!
